The Dynasty Aftermath: David S. Pumpkins

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week.

I’ve written this column for the past sixteen years and I love it. I enjoy combing through the stats of the week on Monday night, putting together ridiculous lineups, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all. I also really love sharing observations, little bits of entertainment or some stories with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. You really never know what you’re going to get.

With Halloween upon us, there’s nothing better than one of the single best Halloween sketches of all-time: David S Pumpkins.

So, why in the world would I choose this one? Well, it’s one of the best Halloween sketches of all-time, but it also has a valuable fantasy football lesson found within – just when you think you have something figured out, you’re surprised to find out you don’t. In other words, you can never stop building your team. You may look at it and think it’s just unstoppable or has no holes, then a weekend like this last one comes around and obliterates your team with injuries. Never, ever stop building. Keep grabbing those players off the wire and spinning them for value. Keep reading this site’s news every week. Keep up with the trends, buy low and sell high!

Let’s get to it!

Fantasy MVP of the Week

Who is this Josh Jacobs and where has he been the past few seasons? Wow. Jacobs torched the Houston Texans for 143 rushing yards and three touchdowns. You may not want to accept it, but Jacobs has emerged as one of the single biggest weapons in fantasy football. Quite honestly, he could be in line for fantasy MVP this season based on where his ADP was at the beginning of the year. He’s absolutely raking in a contract season. At this point, you can bet the Raiders wish they’d picked up his option.

Fantasy LVP of the Week

What happened to Mark Andrews?  I get the Cleveland Browns wanted to neutralize him, but that was unbelievable. No catches this week? Andrews was one of only four total players to be in the “Unbeatable Lineup of the Week” in three of the first seven weeks, joining Tyreek Hill, Justin Jefferson, and Austin Ekeler. If you needed even a handful of points, you were toast this week – that’s like someone telling you the house down the street has full-size candy bars, then getting a pencil when you go Trick or Treating down there.

Gut Checks

I’d be scared if I thought this injury was going to ruin Breece Hall‘s career.

I’d be scared if I thought Jonathan Taylor was still the RB1 this season.

I’d be scared if I was ignoring the play of Brandon Aiyuk.

I’d be scared if I wasn’t trying to acquire Tony Pollard.

I’d be scared if I was ignoring the recent streak of Chase Claypool.

I’d be scared if I was playing against Ja’Marr Chase.

I’d be scared if I was ignoring Parris Campbell.

I’d be scared if I thought AJ Dillon was still a “1B.” He’s a “2.”

I’d be scared if I missed out on the chance to get Terry McLaurin on the cheap.

I’d be scared if I wasn’t seriously considering going Trick or Treating as David S Pumpkins.

I’d be scared if I was still using Najee Harris as my RB1.

I’d be scared if I had given up on Jerry Jeudy.

I’d be scared if I had Miles Sanders. The Eagles are sniffing around the running back market.

I’d be scared if I didn’t make a run at D’Ernest Johnson before Hunt moves on.

I’d be scared if I was still holding out hope for Laviska Shenault.

I’d be scared if I was still starting Romeo Doubs.

I’d be scared if I was relying on David Montgomery.

I’d be scared if I was needing Damien Harris.

I’d be scared if I thought Christian McCaffrey wasn’t going to just blow up soon.

I’d be scared if I needed anything from Robert Woods.
