The Washington Commanders selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Commanders decided to make Daniels the face of the franchise and took him with the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It's hard to blame him as he put up video game numbers last season at LSU. It's difficult to see any other quarterback with a higher ceiling than Daniels has, though it's also evident there's a low floor here as well, especially considering his small frame. If he can prove his throwing ability can match his rushing talent, the sky is truly the limit, though. Daniels could find his way to the top of Superflex rookie drafts and is an easy early second rounder in conventional rookie drafts this off-season as well.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels reportedly will not take part in the passing drills at this week's NFL Scouting Combine.
Bummer. Caleb Williams won't throw, either, but this one is a little more disappointing for dynasty managers who are likely hoping to decipher if Daniels is truly a better runner than passer. While the Combine is far from a sure thing in terms of evaluation and has become more of a social experience than anything else, this would have been great to see. Still, Daniels is likely assured of a top three spot in the NFL Draft and could have only likely hurt his true draft stock. He'll be in play for the top overall spot in Superflex rookie drafts but it's hard to see him overtaking Williams at this point.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels is taken second overall by the Commanders in the initial mock draft by Mel Kiper, Jr.
Daniels is going to be a fast riser after winning the Heisman Trophy and dominating in the SEC last season. There are legitimate questions about his ability as a passer vs. a runner (most think he's a better runner), but his dynamic ability is real. He's going to be in play as the 1.01 in 2QB/Superflex drafts and a likely first rounder in other drafts this year. A high-risk, high-reward player if there ever was one, Daniels will be compared to Anthony Richardson a lot and will enter the league with even higher expectations.

In the latest ESPN Mock Draft, Jayden Daniels was selected by the Patriots with the third overall pick.
The Patriots tried to make things work with the likes of Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe, Cam Newton and a host of others in the post-Tom Brady era and nothing has worked. With Bill Belichick out and Jerod Mayo in, New England is likely ready to hit the reset button. Daniels put together a Heisman-worthy campaign at LSU this season with a ridiculous 3,812 passing yards, 1,134 rushing yards, 50 total touchdowns and just four interceptions. The question about him is simple - does he have NFL-level instincts and throwing ability? If he does, his talent translates seamlessly. He's easily the biggest boom or bust prospect in this year's class. You could make a case for Daniels to be the 1.01 in a Superflex rookie drat if you're a true believer in his talent.
