Dynasty Blueprint: 5 Takeaways From Week Eight

Ryan McDowell

Editor's Note: Ryan debuted the Dynasty Blueprint term all the way back in 2014, focusing on his personal dynasty strategy and philosophy. He introduced ideas like punting running backs and the now-common productive struggle. This series expands on the original, providing an in-depth look inside his dynasty mind.

This article and all of the content on DLF is for you, the reader. The goal is to make you a better dynasty player and bring home some titles. Hopefully, this will help you reach that goal.

Dynasty Five

Here are the five dynasty related stories that have my attention coming off another week of NFL action.

Hail Mary, Hail Daniels

By now, you’ve all seen the play a dozen times or more. With just two seconds left and his team trailing by three points, star rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels drops backs. He scrambles right, and then left, narrowly dodging potential tacklers before launching the ball nearly 60 yards down the field. It bounces off a collection of receivers and defenders before landing in the arms of Commanders receiver Noah Brown for a game-winning touchdown.

The play will go down in history and we’ll be watching that as part of Hail Mary montages for years to come. It serves as an unforgettable moment in Daniels’ career, possibly the first of many. While the play itself is fun to watch and re-watch and discuss, what’s really noteworthy is that Daniels was in the game in the first place. After suffering a chest injury the previous week, it was presumed Daniels would miss the showdown with fellow top pick Caleb Williams. Then comes the surprise news that Daniels would be active and starting. The toughness Daniels showed in suiting up for that game answered some of the doubts about his game as a prospect.

Thanks to the last-second game-winner, Daniels finished with 326 passing yards and a score in addition to 52 rushing yards. Daniels is now second in the league in completion percentage and second in rushing among quarterbacks, behind only Lamar Jackson.

From a dynasty standpoint, at the very least, Daniels has vaulted into the top tier alongside Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts. At just 23 years old and still lacking elite playmakers, there is room for Daniels to improve, suggesting he can still gain value.
