John Metchie III is a Canadian gridiron football wide receiver for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He played college football at Alabama, winning the Jon Cornish Trophy twice prior to being drafted by the Texans in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Texans rookie receiver John Metchie was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia and will likely miss the season.
APL is very treatable, possesses a very high remission rate and we send our thoughts and hopes for a full recovery to the young receiver. Until Metchie is back on the field, his dynasty ranking will be in freefall. As the news is still very recent, Metchie is still listed as DLF's WR58 but expect that to drop precipitously in the coming days.

Texans second-round rookie wide receiver John Metchie is being overlooked.
Metchie suffered a torn ACL in December during the team's semifinal game but is said to be potentially available for training camp when it opens in July. The timeline seems rushed and it's a better bet that the rookie opens the regular season on the PUP list, missing upwards of the first eight games. Metchie shares many of the same characteristics as 2021 rookie Jaylen Waddle and should be inserted into the starting lineup upon his return between Brandin Cooks and 2021 rookie Nico Collins. When healthy, look for the Texans to establish Metchie by getting the ball into his hands in space to highlight his game breaking speed. John Metchie is DLF's WR54 and rookie WR10 has been a popular second-round selection in dynasty rookie drafts.

According to Texans receiver Brandin Cooks, rookie John Metchie is "special."
Metchie is still rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered during the SEC Championship game and remains very limited in camp, but Cooks is already a fan of the young receiver. Lauding his attention to detail and focus, Cooks already has a "feel" for the rookie and believes good things are to come. Metchie isn't a lock to be ready to play in week one and could start on the the PUP list to begin the season, but there's no questioning his fit within the offense and his chance for material production once healthy. In his last season at Alabama, Metchie posted a 96/1,142/8 stat line and possesses similar size and dynamic to 2021 rookie Jaylen Waddle. As DLF's WR54, Metchie profiles as a high-upside second-round selection in dynasty rookie drafts.

The Houston Texans selected John Metchie in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Metchie would have likely been taken higher in the draft had he not torn his ACL last season. As it is, he lands in a decent spot with the Houston Texans in the second round. The Texans have a wasteland of a depth chart behind Brandin Cooks and Metchie is going to bring more production from the slot. He should move up on rookie draft boards and is likely a second rounder in most rookie drafts.
