Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Drafts: Rookies Destined to be Overdrafted

Fantasy owners get overly excited at times about rookies. What was the hype on them? What was their NFL Draft capital? What is their landing spot? There are a lot of factors to consider going into rookie drafts and weighing one piece over others can lead to making poor decisions. The savvy owners take advantage of others' weaknesses overvaluing situation or those that stubbornly stick to predraft evaluations only. This has led to the following list being overdrafted in early drafts.

1. Jameson Williams, WR DET (Round 1, Pick 12)

The Lions made a cheap move up during the first round of the draft to go grab Williams. As general manager Brad Holmes said: “we wanted game-changers”. And with two picks in 2023 draft, they could make a move for their future quarterback as well. This makes Williams very attractive, but in early rookie drafts, he is getting pushed up into the top six. This is a price too high to pay.

Williams' role and usage remain to be seen, and at this point, there is a chance he is a Henry Ruggs-esque deep threat who really helps on the field but not for fantasy purposes. With Amon-Ra St. Brown and TJ Hockenson gathering targets, Williams could be in line for merely a few deep targets a game. With Jared Goff at the helm and a team rushing focus, there is some major downside for the Williams - without even mentioning his ACL injury.

Now, if he falls to the late first/early second, he is a fine value and worth taking, but second-day WRs like Christian Watson and George Pickens offer the same upside in better situations with more targets likely to come their way in the upcoming years.
