We've looked at multiple types of mock drafts over the course of this series this off-season. The one direction I haven't covered yet was best ball. I used Fantasy Pros' best ball ADP, compiled from four different sources, to show the latest ADP from best ball sites. To me, the fun of best ball leagues is grabbing players I would rarely draft in other formats. The big play, boom-bust, guys you can never count on in a given week become targets in best ball. Once you adjust your mindset, best ball drafts can be a lot of fun.
Best ball or not, the top of drafts look similar no matter the settings and scoring. These top 12 players are safe week in, week out, while bringing tremendous upside potential on any given Sunday. High-floor, high-ceiling options are welcome on any roster. The only player in this group that scares me a little bit is rookie Ashton Jeanty at tenth overall. The Raiders projected win total is 6.5 (the seventh-fewest), and they're coming off a four-win season, so they're going to be bad. It is hard for a running back to amass touches on a terrible team.
Much like round one, as we get to 13-24, we have some additional high-ceiling, high-floor options. We kick the round off with Christian McCaffrey, who has as much upside as anyone in football if he can stay on the field. As we scroll down the list, Jonathan Taylor scares me a little. He will get an absurd amount of carries again, but he is becoming less and less involved in the passing game each season, hurting his upside.
