The Texans have traded running back Cam Akers to the Minnesota Vikings.
Houston will get a conditional sixth round pick in exchange for Akers and a seventh round conditional selection. In other words, Minnesota grabs Akers on the cheap for the second straight season and will hope he can help out should Aaron Jones miss time. Akers could be a decent fill-in but his career has clearly reached "journeyman" status. Akers could carve out some short-term value in Minnesota, but time will tell.

Texans running back Cam Akers had 21 rushing yards, adding one catch for eight yards and a touchdown in the Texans blowout loss to Minnesota.
Akers saved his day with a score but was relatively ineffective in this one. The game script changed for Houston early as they fell behind, but this is what we've seen from Akers over the past couple of years - mediocre numbers. If Joe Mixon misses another week, he's going to be a tough player to suggest playing until we see something of substance.

The Texans could be without Joe Mixon in the short-term, leaving the backfield to Cam Akers.
Mixon is dealing with an ankle ailment that has him day-to-day. Should he fail to return this week, it looks like Akers could draw the start as Dameon Pierce is dealing with an injury of his own. This would potentially be a career-saving moment for Akers, who has simply been awful the past two years as he's struggled to return from multiple injuries. He should be rostered everywhere as we wait and see Mixon's status.
Cam Akers solid in finale · Aug 25, 2024
Texans running back Cam Akers had 53 yards on seven carries in Houston's preseason finale.
The story here may not be the fact Akers did this on only seven carries - it may be that Akers played in the game at all. Running backs with roster spots sewn up don't typically play this week and that may not bode well for him in the end. It seems the injury sustained a couple of years ago has really deprived Akers of his potential. He belongs on the waiver wire at the moment until we see how Houston manages their depth chart.
