The Dynasty Aftermath: 80s Fashion in 2021
Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best.
I just have to address something this week. What is up with the speckled sweatshirts the NFL has determined are this year’s version of the uniform for coaches? If you haven’t noticed them, here they are:
I seriously don’t get it. It’s like they made a sweatshirt and dipped it in ice cream sprinkles. Now, I’m no fashion afficianado (yeah, I looked that word up to look smart, kind of like how Matt Price named dropped me in last week’s podcast to look smart himself), but it made me wonder. What would today’s coaches look like in more 80s fashion? So, as you would expect, I had to experiment. This is what I came up with and I have to say each would look better than those ridiculous 80s-themed sweatshirts the league approved.

1.) Arthur Smith’s Pink Pants
I like this look because it’s pretty universal for hot and cold. Pants are breathable, jacket keeps you warm. It would also distract you from the fact your team can’t stop anyone.
2.) Boy McCarthy
His hands are in position where he’s conveniently confused on if he needs to take a time out. Stunningly, that’s his real hat.
3.) Jon Bon Meyer
Figured this would fit since he tends to be out late.
4.) Bill Belichick as Tony Danza
What can I say – he’s the boss. I like this fashion statement because he kind of looks like a hobbit, too. That’s like an extra added bonus.
5.) Mr. T
That’s “T” as in Tomlin. I’d love this look on the sideline. I pity the fool who says Big Ben shouldn’t start!
6.) Magnum P.I.
This would be a fantastic look for Matt Nagy as he awaits the helicopter to take him away after he gets fired for injuring Justin Fields. I would especially enjoy the Tom Selleck hair plugs.
Anyway, I just think those fashion statements couldn’t be as bad as the weird choice for this year. As you know, I tend to have random thoughts and that’s what really struck me this week. If we’re going to do this 80s thing, I just think the league should do it right!

Fantasy MVP of the Week
I love to see huge performances at the end of the day on Sunday, during the late game Sunday night or during Monday Night Football. It makes every catch, every touchdown, and every yard seemingly worth more as managers need specific stats to get wins. CeeDee Lamb did just that as he led Dallas to a monster 35-29 win at New England with nine catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns, including one of the walk-off variety. Lamb is coming into his own and starting to make Amari Cooper look like the WR2 in Dallas. And I just have to mention Derrick Henry – he helped many a fantasy team on Monday Night as well.
Fantasy LVP of the Week
Those of you who live on the West Coast and have Myles Gaskin on your roster probably set your alarm clock, grabbed your cold pizza, and sat down on your coach anticipating another good game from the Miami running back. After all, Gaskin had ten catches last week and had seemingly established himself again as the best option in the backfield for the Dolphins. Well, that was fun. Gaskin rewarded you with nine yards on five carries and two catches for five yards. Even worse, the running back touches were inconsistent again as Gaskin had seven, Malcolm Brown had six and Salvon Ahmed had eight. This is a mess and it’s very clear to me the 2022 starting running back for the Dolphins is currently not on the roster. Respond accordingly with your roster moves.

I’d be worried if I approved those sweatshirts.

I’d be worried if I thought Dalton Schultz wasn’t for real.

I’d be worried if I had CMC. This is getting really unsettling. He’s missed 16 of the past 22 games now.
I’d be worried if I had Julio Jones. I just call him day-to-day at this point.
I’d be worried if I had Antonio Gibson. He may end up getting shut down at some point.
I’d be worried if I thought anyone other than Diontae Johnson was the first option for Big Ben.
I’d be worried if I had Aaron Jones. AJ Dillon is going garbage time carries, but there’s a lot of garbage time.
I’d be worried if I was still holding out hope for James Washington.
I’d be worried if I had CEH. Darrel Williams wasn’t great, but still scored more points than CEH has in any game in his career.

He’s averaging 20.5 yards per catch. Twenty. Point. Five.
2.) Najee Harris RB PIT (81 rushing yards, six catches, 46 receiving yards, one touchdown) (Last week: 2)
After a sub-par week one, few players (not just rookies) have been more consistent.
3.) Kyle Pitts TE ATL (BYE) (Last week: 4)
I’m one of the few who believe the top tier has two players in it, not three. However he has the chance to prove me wrong in the next few weeks.
4.) DeVonta Smith WR PHI (Two catches, 31 receiving yards) (Last week: 3)
The inconsistency of Jalen Hurts has been producing some up and down weeks for the Slim Reaper.
5.) Jaylen Waddle WR MIA (Ten catches, 70 receiving yards, two touchdowns) (Last week:5)
You have to give Waddle credit for evolving his game. He’s only averaging 8.1 yards per reception, which is shocking. However, he’s also on pace for 105 catches, which is ridiculous. This breakout performance likely ups his price in dynasty leagues.
6.) Javonte Williams RB DEN (53 rushing yards, three catches, 15 receiving yards) (Last week: 6)
I’m just going to keep pasting the same thing from previous weeks. “Until Melvin Gordon is out of the picture, the potential of Williams is capped in the short and long-term.”
7.) Rondale Moore WR ARI (Three catches, 16 receiving yards, ten rushing yards) (Last week: 7)
He’s really settled in as no better than the third or fourth option at the moment, which is going to make for some up and down performances.
8.) Travis Etienne RB JAX (Last week: 8)
Out for the season.
9.) Rashod Bateman WR BAL (Four catches, 29 receiving yards) (Last week: 9)
Nice to see him on the field. The next few weeks should solidify his ranking one way or another.
10.) Kadarius Toney WR NYG (Three catches, 36 receiving yards) (Last week: 10)
Grrr. His ankle injury stopped what should have been a good day. Take advantage if he’s available in your league.
