Taking advantage of potential valuation trends in the trade market is imperative. That is even more true during the season when players can experience wild valuation changes on a week-to-week basis. Each week, I will be highlighting some players you should be looking to move or acquire and the reasons why.
In fantasy football, it is not always the case where one player goes down injured, and the replacement steps into their shoes and produces just the same. Brandon Aiyuk is an elite wide receiver, which is why the 49ers paid him $30m per year to keep him around. He finished last year as the WR12 in PPR formats. This year, he tore his ACL and is now done for the season. In steps Juaun Jennings, who is not some below-average replacement. The 49ers prioritized re-signing him, and he has shown consistently over the last few years that he can be reliable when it matters on third downs. Week ten was Jennings's first game back, and not only did he lead the 49er's pass catchers in snaps and run a route on 95% of pass plays but he saw an impressive 27.5% Targets per route run. He is the new X receiver in this offense and will be a reliable weapon for fantasy for the rest of this season. He could be a wide receiver three for your fantasy team but with the upside of a wide receiver two. He is under contract with San Francisco in 2025, where it would cost them more money to move on from him, so if Brandon Aiyuk isn't 100% healthy to start the season, he could earn himself a more significant role again before hitting free agency before the 2026 season. Now, we get to talk about the cost of acquisition. I would happily pay a 2024-round pick for a top 36 wide receiver for the rest of the season who could help me win a title. However, I believe you may be able to acquire Jennings for cheaper than that, and if the team that rosters Jennings isn't contending, they may be looking to sell at a perceived peak value.
