We’re now a month deep into the season, which brings with it the usual drumbeat of injuries and impending bye weeks. To the former, at the minimum it looks like Chiefs’ emerging stud receiver Rashee Rice could be out for the season with a torn ACL. Other skill players appearing likely to miss time include Jonathan Taylor, Cordarrelle Patterson, Taysom Hill, and Christian Watson, with this group mirrored on the IDP side of things as well (though not within the remit of this weekly article). When missed contests merge with bye weeks it has the ability to stretch owners with shallower rosters a bit thin – this isn’t to say you need to make a judgement on the rest of your season at this juncture, but rather that perhaps there are some band-aid types of moves you can make to get by(e).
Disclaimer time! Now that real, live football is upon us, I need to clarify the overarching rationale behind my advice. As you’re well aware by the fact you’ve come to a website entitled dynastyleaguefootball.com, we’re still taking a long view into account in addition to each player’s weekly (and year-to-date) output. Therefore and for example, when I say a player is a “buy high,” it’s not solely due to the week he just had. Instead, guidance will also take into account his current stature in tools such as DLF’s ADP and rankings, in addition to how he performed.
Much as in previous iterations of this weekly series, I will list one player apiece who I’ve bucketed into the following categories:
One last note, as I’m referencing DLF ADP and rankings, advice herein is for a 12-team, non-superflex setting with full PPR scoring. Divergent league settings (both for starting positions and scoring) hopefully shouldn’t render this advice as not actionable, but it’s an important disclaimer nonetheless.
With that preamble in hand, here are the tactical transactions you should consider before week five:
Week 4 Line: 18-104-1, 4-17-0 (4 targets)
Now the PPR RB11 on the season, Hubbard overcame a sleepy start and has come alive with quarterback Andy Dalton under center, with back to back RB1 performances. In doing so he eclipsed 20 PPR points both weeks, in part due to his target volume (nine) and efficiency (100%). With 5.4 YPC and two total scores, the youngster is simply playing fantastic football.
