Dynasty Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 17

Jeff Mueller

Editor’s note: In light of the on-field incident involving Bills safety Damar Hamlin, we want to be sensitive to this situation. There is no easy way to deal with trauma, so in order to account for all preferences, we going to continue our normal content schedule. Our thoughts are with Hamlin and his family as we all hope for his swift and full recovery. If you would like to contribute to Hamlin’s charity, we strongly encourage donations be made here.

My name is Jeff Mueller, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and I am here to help guide you through these weekly injuries and provide (hopefully) helpful insight into how bad the injury is and what the expected timeline for recovery is for your key player. The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.

Follow me on Twitter @jmthrivept for further updates throughout the week.

Good luck if you’re still playing in fantasy. Also, please continue to pray for Damar Hamlin and his family.

Jalen Hurts, QB PHI

Injury: Right Shoulder Sprain (SC Sprain)

Return to Play: Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Hurts is reportedly pushing to play this week, with the Eagles in a must-win situation for the first seed in the playoffs.

Lamar Jackson, QB BAL

Injury: Left PCL Sprain

Return to Play: TBD, Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Jackson may have a chance to return this week, though many variables are in play here. Keep an eye on his practice status.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB MIA

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: TBD, likely NFL Playoffs

Fantasy Impact: Tagovailoa has now suffered three concussions within a 13-week span, including the first two within four days of each other. He has reportedly been ruled out for the last week of the NFL season, with a chance to play in playoffs.

Colt McCoy, QB ARI

Injury: Concussion Protocol

Return to Play: Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Filling in for Kyler Murray, McCoy will now have to clear all steps in order to clear concussion protocol. It could be David Blough starting at QB this week again, but I think McCoy clears protocol.

Nick Foles, QB IND

Injury: Rib Injury

Return to Play: Out

Fantasy Impact: Foles is likely going to be out for the last game of the season, leaving the Colts’ last game in the hands of Sam Ehlinger. Surprisingly, Ehlinger provided higher hopes for Michael Pittman and some of the weapons than Foles did.

Christian McCaffrey, RB SF

Injury: Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: McCaffrey reportedly suffered a mild low ankle sprain but finished the game. Monitor his practice status. My guess is the 49ers will limit his overall snaps and touches this week to keep him fresh for playoffs. If CMC is out, Jordan Mason would likely handle the majority of the touches.

Aaron Jones, RB GB

Injury: Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Jones was no longer limited last week, dominating touches and producing well. I haven’t seen anything about any setbacks occurring, so he should continue to dominate touches next week.

Derrick Henry, RB TEN

Injury: Hip

Return to Play: Wk 18

Fantasy Impact: Henry is reportedly going to play this week, as we all likely suspected. He probably could have played last week, but last week’s game didn’t matter nearly as much as this week’s game to determine a playoff spot against the Jaguars. Of note, his yardage props are fairly conservative, those overs are looking pretty good.

James Conner, RB ARI

Injury: Shin Injury

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Conner suffered a shin injury, likely a bone bruise, and was unable to return to the game. It seemed as though Corey Clement took the majority of touches, with Keaontay Ingram getting zero.

Tony Pollard, RB DAL

Injury: Thigh

Return to Play: Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Pollard is expected to attempt to practice this week with a decent chance at returning to play for week 18. Not sure what his usage would look like though, as the team likely saves his legs for playoffs.

Antonio Gibson, RB WAS

Injury: Undisclosed Sprain

Return to Play: Wk 18

Fantasy Impact: Gibson is dealing with a lower leg strain. There is likely a chance that he returns, but the Commanders are eliminated from playoffs so we’ll have to wait and see what they opt to do.

Marlon Mack, RB DEN

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: Mack is likely out for this week, leaving the backfield to Latavius Murray and then Chase Edmonds stepping in.

Deebo Samuel, WR SF

Injury: Knee/Ankle

Return to Play: Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Samuel was able to practice in a limited capacity last week before being ruled out, which may indicate that he’s close to returning. My guess is he will play this next week, but we’ll have to wait and see how much. Most likely, limited usage to get some reps in before the playoffs begin.

DeAndre Hopkins, WR ARI

Injury: Knee

Return to Play: Week 18-TBD

Fantasy Impact: Arizona does not have much to play for, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he does not suit up for week 18. Monitor his practice status.

Jakobi Meyers, WR NE

Injury: Shoulder, AC Sprain

Return to Play: Week 18-TBD

Fantasy Impact: Meyers suffered an AC sprain on the last catch he made for a touchdown, but told reporters that he “is fine”. Monitor his practice status for week 18.

Hayden Hurst, TE CIN

Injury: Calf Strain

Return to Play: Week 18

Fantasy Impact: Hurst didn’t have any reported setbacks in the minimal game action he saw. I would expect him to play again in week 18.

Greg Dulcich, TE DEN

Injury: Hamstring

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: I expect Dulcich to miss another week, but he will likely attempt to practice to test out if he can play or not. He is a risky play for fantasy purposes if active.
