Jaxon Smith-Njigba News

  • J. Smith-Njigba scores · Oct 23, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba scored his first touchdown as a professional in the team's 20-10 victory over the Cardinals in week seven.

JSN is off to a slow start but it's not unexpected as the rookie plays between veterans DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. With Metcalf on the sidelines for the week, JSN produced a 4/63/1 line on seven targets, his highest total of the season. The rookie looked fluid and dynamic and could have had a bigger day if not for a couple off-target throws by Geno Smith. Regardless, the production was welcomed relief to those investing high draft capital on 2023's rookie WR1. Still only 21, JSN has a long runway ahead to achieve greatness. Smith-Njigba is listed as DLF's WR16.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba quiet again · Sep 17, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba had five catches for 34 yards in Seattle's road win against Detroit.

Smith-Njigba now has just eight catches for 47 yards on the season after a three-catch performance in the opener. Brighter days should be ahead for the rookie but it's apparent he's still very much behind both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in the pecking order for the Seahawks. His ranking of WR14 shouldn't start sliding but a big game would certainly stop that from even being a possibility.

  • J. Smith-Njigba will play · Sep 7, 2023

Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) is expected to play in the Seahawks opener.

It's great news for the rookie, his dynasty managers and the entire Seahawks offense. JSN had surgery only two weeks ago though returned to practice a week later and is set to go on Sunday when the team hosts the flailing Rams. Expectations should be kept low for JSN's rookie season but the bar is already raised as the top-selected receiver tries to follow-on to other such notable highly-drafted names as Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Garrett Wilson, CeeDee Lamb and Jaylen Waddle. There will be significant competition for targets between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett though that will also provide a greater runway for single coverage production in his rookie season. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is found as DLF's WR15.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba to undergo surgery · Aug 22, 2023

Seahawks rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba will undergo wrist surgery.

Uh oh. It seems Smith-Njigba broke a bone in his wrist on a touchdown reception in last week's preseason game. The good news is it seems Seattle is expecting him back in time for the regular season opener. While his early season production could be in doubt, JSN has looked every bit the part of the second overall rookie this Spring and any dynasty manager in a league where someone is discounting his value should pounce.

  • JSN catches three passes · Aug 12, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught three passes for for 25 yards in his Seahawks preseason debut.

Smith-Njigba was admittedly nervous as he took his first NFL snap but was immediately thrown into the action by catching the first pass of the game. As expected, JSN played limited snaps but looked fairly impressive during them. A camp standout who has reportedly yet to drop a pass since landing in Seattle after the draft, Smith-Njigba remains clearly in the mix to be the second rookie position player taken after Bijan Robinson in late rookie drafts.

  • J. Smith-Njigba the star of camp · Aug 5, 2023

Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been the star of camp

JSN has been making highlight reel catches every day in camp and is already being lauded by coaches and players for his incredible route-running. The bigger question for the rookie will be his role between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett but, if he maintains his momentum into the regular season, targets may not be an issue. The recent history of top drafted receivers has been very good and JSN, now fully recovered from the hamstring injury which cost him most of his 2022 season at Ohio State, is in a good place to follow-on to that trend. Bijan Robinson remains the top pick in dynasty rookie drafts, but Jaxon Smith-Njigba may also be the next iteration of Justin Jefferson or Ja'Marr Chase. He's listed as DLF's WR17 and may be undervalued.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba praised · Jul 28, 2023

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was praised by Geno Smith

Smith-Njigba has reportedly turned in great play after great play this offseason since being the first receiver off the board during the 2023 NFL Draft. The bigger question will be the target competition as he'll be on the field with both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. He's expected to play out of the slot, and if early reports of his 1-on-1 route-running abilities hold true, he's going to be open a lot. Listed as DLF's WR17, JSN has been a frequent selection at second-overall in dynasty rookie drafts behind only Bijan Robinson. Receivers are on the rise in dynasty formats due to RBBC and injury concerns at running back, and NFL teams have been very successful of late in identifying top receivers. If recent history is any guide, drafters of Jaxon Smith-Njigba won't have to wait long before seeing him take his place among the NFL elite at the position. He's listed as DLF's WR17.

  • J. Smith-Njigba so impressive · Jun 19, 2023

Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith said of Jaxon Smith-Njigba: "He's so impressive"

JSN has looked exactly as advertised, has displayed the expected route-IQ and even flashed better than expected speed. The rookie will play from the slot between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and, though there could be competition for targets, he should be a producer in year-one. The NFL has been turning top-selected receivers into fantasy sensations over the past five years and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DLF's WR17, remains a good bet to be 2023's iteration.

  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba as advertised · Jun 10, 2023

Rookie Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been as advertised in practice

JSN has drawn rave reviews from coaches and players all offseason and continues to show expectations for his rookie season should be very high. He'll have significant competition for targets playing between DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett but, starting out of the slot and given a free release into his routes, he could be a material producer from day one. Pete Carroll has been effusive in his praise of the rookie saying: “He’s really a natural athlete. Gifted in his timing in and out of breaks, and his feel. He also has — which we saw in the workout at school — great change of direction in him. He’s got marvelous ability to get in and out of his turns. And his hands are just as natural as can be. He’s really a bright football player, too. It makes sense to him." JSN, DLF's WR17, will be one to watch when pads go on in training camp.
