The Dynasty Aftermath: Matthew Perry Tribute

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week. I’ve written this column for the past seventeen years and I love it. I enjoy combing through the stats of the week on Monday night, putting together ridiculous lineups, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all. I also really love sharing observations, little bits of entertainment or some stories with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. You really never know what you’re going to get. This year, I’m doing a “Five in Five” article each week and that previews this article on Saturdays. Let’s recap the storylines from last week before we get into it.

Kupp runneth over?

When Cooper Kupp returned from injury, many thought upstart rookie Puka Nacua would see a decrease in targets and production. Well, the results have been pretty surprising thus far. In the three games since returning, targets have looked as follows:

Kupp = Weekly targets of 12,9,7 for a total of 28 (17/295/1 game lines combined)
Nacua = Weekly targets of 11,7,12 for a total of 30 (19/251/1 game lines combined)

Well, this week was just a mess. The Rams got smoked by Dallas with Kupp and Nacua both posting just 21 receiving yards each. Kupp had more targets with ten but this week didn’t tell us too much.

Add it up

Vikings rookie Jordan Addison had another solid game with seven catches for 82 yards and a touchdown but the bigger news for him is the loss of Kirk Cousins. Minnesota is hoping Jaren Hall or maybe Josh Dobbs can right the ship but it’s hard to see Addison keeping this up. Still, we’ve seen enough to know he’s here to stay.

I’ve got a Thielen

Another solid week in the books for target hog Adam Thielen who had seven catches for 82 yards this week. He remains a serious buy candidate for contending teams.

ETN-RB1

After three games this year, Travis Etienne looked like what most thought he would be – a sure-fire starter but not a player to necessarily build a team around. Well, the last three games had changed a lot of minds on that front as Etienne had posted two rushing touchdowns in each of those games. moving himself all the way up to the RB5 as a result. He wasn’t quite as a good this week but we’ll take it.

Soaring Eagle

AJ Brown set the NFL record with six straight games with at least 125 receiving yards, giving him 939 on the season. There’s a lot of talk about Tyreek Hill this year but Brown has been nearly as good.

…and now to the news of the week. We lost Matthew Perry and it was a heartbreaker for those my age. Friends was a big part of my life after High School as many of us got together on Thursday nights to watch some real comedic genius. I’ll save most of my words for the super-sized gut checks this week but this one hurt. I simply love sarcasm and Perry was one of the best at it. Rest in peace, Matthew.

On to week eight!

Fantasy MVP of the Week

I had everything set to name CeeDee Lamb this week until Monday night when Jahmyr Gibbs went crazy. This may have been the coming out party many were hoping for as Gibbs obliterated the Raiders with 152 rushing yards, five catches, 37 receiving yards, and a touchdown. The Lions may just wait a little longer to deem David Montgomery fully healthy.

Fantasy LVP of the Week

Patrick Mahomes has been an MVP countless times in this column but an effort with just 241 passing yards and two interceptions against a Denver team that had been historically bad was just plain shocking and sunk a lot of fantasy teams this week.

The Unbeatable Lineup of the Week

QB Sam Howell WAS = 397 passing yards, four touchdowns

Gut Checks (Super-Sized Edition by Request)

I’d be worried if I wasn’t cashing out on Alvin Kamara if I wasn’t contending.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t seriously concerned about Davante Adams.

I’d be worried if I thought Saquon Barkley could take this beating all season.

I’d be worried if I was counting on D’Onta Foreman.

I’d be worried if I was sleeping on Rashid Shaheed.

I’d be worried if I thought I could count on Kareem Hunt.

I’d be worried if I was still holding out hope for Jalen Tolbert.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring Jake Bobo.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t shopping Joe Mixon after that game.

I’d be worried if I was expecting last year’s version of Christian Watson.

I’d be worried if I needed consistency from any Jaguars receiver.

I’d be worried if I was still needing something from Devin Singletary.

I’d be worried if I was banking on Rhamondre Stevenson.

I’d be worried if I needed anything from any Denver running back other than Javonte Williams.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring Jayden Reed.

I’d be worried if I thought Ryan Tannehill was getting that job back.

I’d be worried if I was hoping a bench warming running back like D’Ernest Johnson, Dalvin Cook or Rashaad Penny would have been traded.

I’d be worried if I needed numbers from Dameon Pierce.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring Sam Howell.

I’d be worried if I needed anything from Justyn Ross any time soon.

I’d be worried if I was counting on Alexander Mattison. And it may get worse without Cousins to worry about.

I’d be worried if I needed anything from Kadarius Toney.

I’d be worried if I needed much from Jameson Williams this year.

I’d be worried if I needed RB1 numbers from Tony Pollard. It just looks off with him.

I’d be worried if I needed elite production from Tee Higgins.

I’d be worried if I needed any Jets player other than Breece Hal.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the week from KJ Osborn.

I’d be worried if I was still thinking Skyy Moore was going to be a factor.

I’d be worried if I was overvaluing Rashod Bateman.

I’d be worried if I needed the good old days from Aaron Jones.

I’d be worried if I thought the run from Raheem Mostert was over.

I’d be worried if I thought Kenneth Gainwell was going to get that job back.

I’d be worried if I was still holding out much hope for Alec Pierce.

I’d be worried if I was overvaluing Treylon Burks. Wow.

I’d be worried if I needed much from Josh Jacobs.

I’d be worried if I needed vintage performances from Amari Cooper.

I’d be worried if I had Miles Sanders.

I’d be worried if I needed consistency from George Kittle.

I’d be worried if I was still rolling out Michael Gallup.

I’d be worried if I was starting Jerry Jeudy or Courtland Sutton at the moment.

I’d be worried if I was still holding on to JuJu Smith-Schuster.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the fact Craig Reynolds is a decent stash.

I’d be worried if I needed big things from Jeff Wilson.

I’d be worried if I was needing Elijah Moore.

I’d be worried if I was still doubting Sam LaPorta was this year’s best tight end.

I’d be worried if I needed elite numbers from James Cook.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the recent run of Taysom Hill.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t paying attention to Josh Downs.

I’d be worried if I needed Hunter Renfrow to get traded. #buzzkill

I’d be worried if I was counting on Kendrick Bourne.

…and that’s 50. For a bonus, I’d be worried if I never watched Friends.

Just a smidge over Nacua and Robinson now.

Sorry but I’m doing it.

3.) Puka Nacua, WR LAR
Can’t really fault him for a down week.

The loss of Cousins is going to hurt in the short-term but he’s been impressive.

6.) Sam LaPorta, TE DET

TIER BREAK

Building on a solid start.

7.) Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR SEA
