Alexander Mattison is an American football running back for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League. He played college football at Boise State and was drafted by the Vikings in the third round, 102nd overall of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Alexander Mattison is a free agent in 2023
Still only 24, dynasty managers have been patiently waiting for Mattison to get his chance on the open market and 2023 could be that year. With Dalvin Cook under contract through 2023 and entrenched as the starter, every indication is that Mattison will move onto greener pastures and should have an opportunity to be a lead back wherever he lands. Mattison finished with a career low in total touches in 2022 and will be looking to secure his first starting job elsewhere, a fact which shouldn't elude dynasty coaches. Acquisition of DLF's RB45 prior to learning about his ultimate landing spot will carry risk but also potential reward for non risk-averse coaches. Possessing rookie second-round value, there's tremendous potential upside to Mattison's 2023 value but with attached backup level risk.

Multiple teams have reportedly inquired about possibly trading for Vikings running back Alexander Mattison.
By multiple, Tomasson reports that number is no fewer than 12 different teams. Mattison is in an odd spot as a player on the last year of his deal with real value, but also one who doesn't play much unless Dalvin Cook is injured. The Vikings are in a weird spot with Mattison, whom they have made no real effort to re-sign. If they do indeed choose to move him, Kene Nwangnu would be a prime pickup in dynasty leagues. Mattison currently resides as our RB42 and remains a prime trade candidate for rebuilding dynasty teams.

There have been no substantial talks between the Vikings and Alexander Mattison in terms of a contract extension.
Mattison has always fared very well as the backup to Dalvin Cook, but it seems Minnesota is unwilling to pay two different running backs big contracts. While Mattison wouldn't cost nearly as much as Cook, it would be easy to argue he'd be a better value. Regardless, it looks like Mattison may end up as a free agent at the end of the season and he'd be in line for a nice value increase should that come to fruition.
