In case you are reading this, there is one bit of information to know before you start reading names. Just like last year’s series, we will be utilizing player rostership percentages, courtesy of real dynasty rosters from 1,700 MFL leagues. While this may not be entirely accurate for every individual league, it is very reflective of how managers view who is worthy or not of a roster spot. Now that that’s covered, let’s dive into the waiver wire after week ten!

Players to double-check availability and immediately add:

Bailey Zappe, QB and Malik Cunningham, QB NE

Another week, another Mac Jones benching for Bailey Zappe. The difference this week was Jones being benched on the final drive when they needed a touchdown to win; Bill Belichick intentionally went to Zappe to try to win the game. Granted, he threw a horrible interception to lose the game, but Belichick seems all but done with Jones and Zappe needs to be added in every superflex league if he is named the starter. The unfortunate part here though is that Zappe is also not a good quarterback, so he might not be a quality starter if you’re desperate for a QB2, so look to add Zappe and then flip him for a fourth if/when he’s named the starter.

I will also shout out Malik Cunningham as a speculative add too. Cunningham has been on a rollercoaster ride this year going from the practice squad to waivers to the active roster back to waivers and now is back on the practice squad. But if Belichick is really looking for a high-upside option at quarterback to end this season, Cunningham is that guy. He has a strong arm and is an explosive runner as well and could add some much-needed juice to this offense if Belichick turned his way.

Carson Wentz, QB LAR

We made it! After highlighting Wentz for multiple weeks now questioning why he wasn’t on a roster yet, he finally signed as the new backup in LA, with the potential to be the starter this week in week 11. The Rams have said a couple of times that they believe Matthew Stafford could be back after the bye, but they are using words like “hopeful” and “optimistic”, which doesn’t scream massive confidence in his return. Wentz could be a one-week starter throwing passes to Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua in a Sean McVay offense. If you didn’t already scoop him up after my multiple recommendations this year already, now you have to this week on the possibility of having a starting quarterback for the week.

Ty Chandler, RB and Kene Nwangwu, RB MIN

In other injury news, Alexander Mattison left the game early for Minnesota and in his stead, Ty Chandler saw eight carries for 27 yards, plus one reception, and he even had a 30-yard touchdown called back on a holding penalty that could have made his day even better. Chandler is the clear lead guy if Mattison misses any time and could possibly go right from the waivers to your starting lineup if he’s still available. I will also mention Nwangwu. If the Mattison injury turns out to be more than just a week’s absence, Nwangwu would then be the handcuff to Chandler if he were to then get hurt.

Trenton Irwin, WR and Tanner Hudson, WR CIN

Getting to the receiver position, perhaps the best adds this week are a pair of Bengals receivers: Hudson and Irwin. With Tee Higgins sidelined with a hamstring injury, possibly for a few weeks even, these are the two guys along with Tyler Boyd who step in to fill Higgins’ role. And boy, did each deliver in separate ways on Sunday.

Irwin was the immediate benefactor, hauling in a 30-yard touchdown to start the game, but outside of one other catch, that was basically his entire production for the day on only four targets. Hudson, however, saw seven targets, second most on the team behind Boyd with Chase playing through injury, and while Hudson did haul in six of those seven targets, he only accumulated 33 yards. Based on both of their usages, I still am not totally convinced of one over the other as “the guy” to replace Higgins. Both seem like great pickups this week, but if you’re banking on them to save your starting lineup and your possible playoff dreams… that might be a different conversation. But they are still worth the add to see if one of them separates from the other, especially if Higgins is out the rest of the year.

Jalen Guyton, WR LAC

And finally, we get to Guyton, who could find himself in an extremely valuable role as we get into the playoff time as a potential name for the WR1 role on the Chargers. Keenan Allen obviously has no competition when healthy, but he flirted with some missed time on Sunday with a shoulder injury and even though he returned to the game, that injury could linger and god-forbid something worse happens down the road. But if Allen were to miss any time and with Josh Palmer still on IR, Guyton could get thrust into the WR1 role here over Quentin Johnston, who finally did something today, but was still out-targeted by Guyton, had fewer yards than Guyton, and Guyton caught a touchdown first before Johnston did. Rostered in a small percentage of leagues, Guyton is a can’t-miss bench stash in case the worst happens.
