The Dynasty Aftermath: Sofa King

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week.

I’ve written this column for the past sixteen years and I love it. I enjoy combing through the stats of the week on Monday night, putting together ridiculous lineups, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all. I also really love sharing observations, little bits of entertainment or some stories with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. You really never know what you’re going to get.

The state of the running back position after five weeks is terrible. In fact, it reminds me of the sketch below.

Yep.  It’s not just terrible. It’s Sofa King terrible!  Just take a look at some of these shocking averages so far this season:

Aaron Jones = 14.4
Dalvin Cook = 14.1
Joe Mixon = 14.0
Kareem Hunt = 13.0
Jonathan Taylor = 12.3
Alvin Kamara = 12.1
JK Dobbins = 10.9
David Montgomery = 10.7
Najee Harris = 10.3
James Conner = 10.1
Travis Etienne = 9.0
Ezekiel Elliott = 8.8

And honestly, the list goes on. That is a “who’s who” of running backs and there are a whopping 25 receivers who are all averaging more points per game than that group. This is an amazing start to a season and just shows how far the league has changed in terms of how important pass catchers are and how interchangeable the running back position truly is. Devin Duvernay is averaging more fantasy points than every running back on that list. Let that sink in for a moment.

Make no mistake. If your team is solely built around running backs on that list, you have a problem. And it’s Sofa King big.

Let’s get to it!

Fantasy MVP of the Week

Well, the Taysom Hill fantasy quandary has come back yet again. Hill continues to be a player who just doesn’t seem to fit in fantasy football. Consider this (from our own Ryan McDowell)  -Hill is the TE4 on the season and has one total catch. He also has more rushing touchdowns (four) than any other tight end has in league history. For his career. Say what you will about how absurd this is, but Hill may just represent a huge advantage for people again. Sofa King huge.

Fantasy LVP of the Week

Jamaal Williams was supposed to be huge this week with D’Andre Swift out. Instead, he and the Lions totally flopped as Williams could only post 56 rushing yards and failed to catch a pass. He and Jared Goff were just plain awful in a 29-0 loss to the Patriots. This just reminds us all that Swift really is a special talent.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I had sold low on Austin Ekeler.

I’d be worried if I thought DeAndre Hopkins was going to make Marquise Brown irrelevant.

I’d be worried if I had Chase Edmonds.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring Tyler Lockett.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring Geno Smith, for that matter.

I’d be worried if I had Rashaad Penny. His dynasty value is going to tank badly. Sofa King badly.

I’d be worried if I was counting on Robert Woods.

I’d be worried if I thought Alvin Kamara was back.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill the next couple of weeks.

I’d be worried if I had James Robinson.

I’d be worried if I needed to start DJ Moore.

I’d be worried if I was counting on Julio Jones.

I’d be worried if I had Joe Mixon as my RB1.

I’d be worried if I didn’t buy my sofas at Sofa King.

I’d be worried if I didn’t appreciate the consistency of Mike Evans.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t thinking strongly of trade moves to start making.

I’d be worried if I missed the window to get Rhamondre Stevenson.

Ditto on Breece Hall.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t watching the season of Josh Jacobs very closely.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t looking at a very quick window to buy on Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Ditto on Garrett Wilson.

I’d be worried if I was starting Terry McLaurin. That team is a mess.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t impressed with Dameon Pierce.

I’d be worried if I thought Friggin’ Mike Williams was going to keep this up.

Ditto on Amari Cooper. We’ve been through this. I’m over it. Sofa King over it.

I’d be worried if I thought this was a mirage from Saquon Barkley.

I’d be worried if I thought George Kittle was still elite.
