The Dynasty Aftermath: My Life at 1,250

Ken Kelly

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week. I’ve written this column for the past eighteen years and I love it (I cannot believe I just typed that). I enjoy combing through the stats of the week on Monday night, putting together ridiculous lineups, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all. I also really love sharing observations, little bits of entertainment or some stories with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. You really never know what you’re going to get.

This week’s theme is pretty simple – it’s one about thankfulness. You see, every time I post an article, I can see the totals of what I’ve produced during a given timeframe. This is clearly handy each month to see you contributions, but it also gives you that running total. This article is actually a bit of a milestone for me – it’s #1,250 in my tenure here at DLF and that’s just since we started tracking.  My guess is that number could be close to 2,000. Since 2006, that’s around 100 articles a year, give or take. Some things that were big in 2006:

  • The DaVinci Code and Cars were out in theaters
  • Brittney Spears filed for divorce
  • Arrested Development had its final episode
  • 30 Rock premiered on NBC
  • Microsoft launched Zune
  • Taylor Hicks won American Idol, the biggest show on TV
  • High School Musical debuted
  • The first tweet was ever sent
  • Facebook was opened to everyone, not just college students
  • We met Miley Cyrus, but knew her as Hannah Montana

In short, it’s been a long time. My kids don’t know anything different other than see me work a lot of late nights and jump on a computer whenever something happens in the NFL. When you write as much as I have, you also need a purpose. Mine has always been to try to help. None of us are true experts at this, but the site has always been a hub to share opinions and information. I also hope I’ve made a lot of you laugh along the way. After writing somewhere around 1.5 million words, I’d hope that’s the case.

Anyway, I’m better than Ryan McDowell (anyone who reads this column might laugh at that) and just wanted to say thanks for the countless number of reads you’ve given me along the way, along with the positive encouragement. It’s an absolute grinder at times, but it’s also still fun.

Speaking of something fun, here’s the oldest version of the Aftermath I can find (from 2010).  It’s pretty fun to look back at names like Jason Snelling, Mike Tolbert, BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Eddie Royal.

Let’s get to it!

Fantasy MVP of the Week

If you needed a Monday Night Miracle this week and had Lamar Jackson quarterbacking your dynasty team, congratulations. He torched Tampa Bay with 281 passing yards, 52 rushing yards and five touchdown passes. He’s on one of those runs right now where just having him as your quarterback keeps you in virtually any fantasy matchup.

Fantasy LVP of the Week

Speaking of MVP candidates, Jared Goff has to be under consideration as his Lions look like one of the best teams in the league. Unfortunately, one of his breakout receivers, Jameson Williams, posted an unlikely clunker this week with one catch for -4 yards on one measly target. To make matters worse, he was suspended (again), this time for two games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Williams is clearly talented but dynasty managers have to be getting a little nervous as he just can’t seem to get out of his own way.

The Unbeatable Lineup of the Week

QB Lamar Jackson BAL = 281 passing yards, 52 rushing yards, five touchdowns

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I thought DeAndre Hopkins was going to be the old DeAndre Hopkins. In fact, no. He will be the old DeAndre Hopkins.

I’d be worried if I thought Deshaun Watson had anything left to give.

I’d be worried if I needed Will Levis moving forward.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t at least mildly concerned about what Brandon Aiyuk really can provide post-injury.

I’d be worried if I missed out on Tank Bigsby.

I’d be worried if I was still holding on to Greg Dulcich.

I’d be worried if I was paying too much for the newly traded Davante Adams. See Hopkins, DeAndre. Maybe not as extreme, but my gut tells me this may not end well.

I’d be worried if I was concerned about having Jared Goff in my lineup.

I’d be worried if I thought James Conner was all washed up.

I’d be worried if I missed out on that little window to trade for Derrick Henry.

I’d be worried if I was underestimating Aaron Jones or Tony Pollard.

I’d be worried if I still considered Trevor Lawrence elite.

I’d be worried if I thought Jordan Mason was Christian McCaffrey.

I’d be worried if I thought Javonte Williams was out of the woods.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the solid season from Terry McLaurin thus far.

I’d be worried if I thought Kenneth Walker was still a committee back.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the scoring streak from Kyren Williams.

I’d be worried if I thought Justin Fields was starting again soon.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring a little bit of a step down from Jordan Love.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t noticed some real consistency from Drake London.

I’d be worried if I needed Mike Evans any time soon.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t disappointed a little in De’Von Achane at the moment.

I’d be worried if I was relying too much on Baker Mayfield now.

I’d be worried if I thought Chase Brown wasn’t better than Zack Moss.

I’d be worried if I missed out on Brock Bowers.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the resurgence from Joe Mixon.

I’d be worried if I wasn’t mildly concerned about Sam LaPorta.

Dynasty Rookie Rankings

Always check our latest rankings to see the updates throughout the week. These rankings are simply my own.

1.) Marvin Harrison Jr WR ARI
He’s been up and down, but that’s the life of a rookie.

2.) Malik Nabers, WR NYG
How good would he be with a legitimate quarterback?

3.) Brock Bowers, TE LV
He deserves to be here.

4.) Brian Thomas, WR JAX
Consistency puts him over Odunze for me at the moment.

5.) Rome Odunze, WR CHI
This has honestly become a slow start.

6.) Xavier Worthy, WR KC
Was hoping to see something more after the bye and instead, they go get Hopkins.

7.) Jonathon Brooks, RB CAR
Tick. Tick. Tick.

8.) Jayden Daniels, QB WAS
QB1 material long-term. Rib injury is of little concern.

9.) Keon Coleman, WR BUF
Starting to get going a little. We’ll see what he does longer term with Cooper in the fold.

10.) Caleb Williams, QB CHI
Tough to keep him off here IMO.

AI Question of the Week
