The first round of the 2024 NFL Draft was very fantasy football-friendly. We saw wide receivers and quarterbacks fly off the board early in the draft. There were some surprises with the quarterbacks. The draft surprised with a couple of wide receivers at the end of the first round.
The second and third rounds of the draft will fill out of dynasty rookie drafts. This is where we will find the values. There's still a lot of talent left on the board. We have first-round caliber wide receivers and all the running backs. Pay close attention to the draft on Friday night because you never know.
Like we all thought going into the draft, Caleb Williams was the first player drafted by the Chicago Bears. He will be the face of the franchise. Dynasty gamers will be selecting him at the 1.01 in Dynasty superflex drafts. Then, the Washington Commanders selected Jayden Daniels. He will get the opportunity to sling the rock to Terry McLaurin this year. The Patriots swooped in at three overall to draft Drake Maye, making it three quarterbacks off the board to start the draft. It will be interesting to see how quickly he develops with the Patriots, considering the team is rebuilding. Dynasty gamers might catch him at a slight discount in rookie drafts this year because he is part of the Patriots' rebuild.
Everybody was shocked when they selected Michael Penix at eight overall. There were some rumors right before the draft that Penix would get drafted higher than expected. What makes this shocking is Kirk Cousins' massive contract, and we might see Penix waiting in the wings a bit before getting his chance to be the team's franchise quarterback.
The Minnesota Vikings did what we expected them to do by drafting JJ McCarthy. They desperately needed a quarterback. We should see him get pushed up the board in rookie drafts, considering he's a top-ten pick who will be throwing to one of the best wide receivers in the league, Justin Jefferson.
