Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy was selected with the 16th overall pick in Mel Kiper's initial mock draft.
This seems about as realistic as it gets. The Seahawks recently hired Mike Macdonald to be their Head Coach and shore up their defense. However, their offense is going to need to be re-tooled as well and while Geno Smith has been steady the past two seasons, he's hardly a long-term solution at the team's most important position. Seattle will have little-to-no chance at players like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye, so McCarthy could be a good back-up plan. While not an elite athlete, McCarthy seems to have a pretty high floor. He'd be in consideration at the end of round one in Superflex drafts and a likely late second rounder in conventional formats.

Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
McCarthy has played virtually mistake-free football the past two years as he's thrown for over 5,700 yards with 44 touchdowns and just nine interceptions as the Michigan starter. With Jim Harbaugh's future up in the air, this seemed like the most probable outcome. McCarthy projects as a first rounder, though it seems he's behind the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels in the pecking order. On the flip side, if he does drop in the draft, he could end up on a team with a chance to win and protect him in the process. Regardless, McCarthy looks like a first round pick in Superflex leagues and a late second rounder in conventional formats this Spring.

In the latest ESPN Mock Draft, JJ McCarthy was selected by the Broncos with the 12th overall pick.
McCarthy is coming off a National Championship run at Michigan that has likely elevated his draft stock. His Junior season was nearly flawless as he threw for 2,991 yards with 22 touchdowns and only four interceptions, despite a brutally tough schedule down the stretch. There are going to be questions about McCarthy's true upside and potential to be a franchise difference-maker but there are few quarterbacks in this class with a higher floor than he has. The Broncos would make sense as they seem intent on moving on from Russell Wilson and need a long-term answer. In this scenario, McCarthy would be in the mix with the top receivers in the first round of a Superflex and a likely late second rounder in other rookie drafts.
