The Commanders have signed running back Austin Ekeler.
Ekeler leaves Los Angeles and gets a two-year deal worth up to $11 million. With some of the other money being thrown around to running backs, this seems like a bargain for Washington and a massive disappointment for Ekeler. After betting on himself after posting 25 rushing touchdowns in the previous two years, Ekeler struggled this season and posted only five on the year. To make matters worse, his reception total went from 107 to 51. He'll replace Antonio Gibson for the Commanders but it clearly seems the days of him being an RB1 in dynasty leagues are all but over.

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler is likely to hit the free agent market.
Ekeler rushed 179 times for 628 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a career-low 3.5 yards per carry, becoming one of the most disappointing players in dynasty leagues last season. The production level fell off a cliff for one of the most consistent players in dynasty leagues and the concern level for Ekeler is high based on his age and massive decline. It's highly likely he finds himself on a team as a receiving complement but also just as likely he's not a bell cow runner at this stage in his career. His landing spot will be crucial to truly evaluate where he needs to ranked but Ekeler's days as an elite RB1 are likely over.

In the first week of the fantasy playoffs, Austin Ekeler saw only nine touches in the Chargers blowout loss to the Raiders in week 15.
His total yardage as a rusher and receiver was 38, but at least he reeled in four receptions. Ekeler has been a monumental disappointment in 2023 and it's somehow fitting that this performance came in the fantasy playoff's first week. In what should have been a plus-matchup for the veteran runner, the script was flipped and it was sophomore Isaiah Spiller who was featured. The "washed" label has been applied multiple times from fantasy analysts of late and his week 15 performance figures to give rise to further usage of it. Turning 29 not long after the 2024 NFL Draft, it's a certainty that Ekeler, DLF's RB12, will be playing elsewhere though the production from late-career backs has been anything but stellar recently. Still, should he find an upside situation, Austin Ekeler could be a sneaky buy-low candidate for competitive dynasty managers.

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler had just 18 rushing yards, two catches, and nine receiving yards in the Los Angeles "win" against New England.
Take the win with a grain of salt as the Chargers beat an abysmal New England team 6-0. There is something clearly off with the Los Angeles offense and Ekeler is suffering. So far this year, he has just 446 rushing yards on just 3.5 yards per carry, which is a career low. While still an easy RB1 play each week, the elite status he's had in years past seems to be fading away a bit.

Austin Ekeler produced only 32 yards rushing in the Chargers week 12 loss to the Ravens.
He did produced 32 yards on 5-of-6 receiving. The once top option has only a single 100-yard game this season, and that came in week one. Furthermore, Ekeler has only been able to muster a 3.8 ypc. average on the season, easily the worst of his career. The 28-year-old's contract dispute with the team is well known and it's a near certainty the veteran will move onto greener pastures in 2024 though it will be a free agent market the likes of which we haven't seen in years. It's hard to know what the future holds for DLF's RB11. Once a top difference-maker for competitive teams, his value is now squarely between "sell-now" and "value-on" ahead of a potential change in scenery in 2024.
