In case you are reading this, there is one bit of information to know before you start reading names. Just like last year’s series, we will be utilizing player rostership percentages, courtesy of dynasty rosters from SafeLeagues and the great Scott Fish. Using that data, I developed an app to view rostership data from over 600 SafeLeagues dynasty leagues, all using the same format and scoring (2 PPR tight end premium). While this may not be entirely accurate for every individual league, it is very reflective of how managers view who is worthy or not of a roster spot. Now that that is covered, let’s dive into the waiver wire after Week 14!
Players to double-check availability and immediately add:
- D’Onta Foreman, RB TEN
- James Washington, WR PIT
- KJ Osborn, WR MIN
- Donovan Peoples-Jones, WR CLE
Tyler Huntley, QB BAL
Injuries were the name of the game this week, as no one seemed to be exempt from the bug, including Lamar Jackson. In his stead, Huntley actually did pretty well and almost brought the Ravens back to win against the Browns. Huntley threw for 270 yards and one touchdown with a 99.7 passer rating, while also adding 45 yards rushing on the ground. Huntley is basically a Jackson clone in terms of playing style, so he works perfectly in the offense already created and run by Jackson. If Jackson is hurt and misses time, Huntley could offer solid QB2 value in superflex leagues with a cast of good receiving weapons and offering a decent floor with his rushing ability.
Justin Jackson, RB LAC and Joshua Kelley, RB LAC
In a game that ended up being super meaningless for the Chargers, Austin Ekeler hurt his ankle and did not return to the game, leaving the backfield in the hands of Jackson and Kelley. Also unfortunate for fantasy managers, is both backup running backs split the backfield 50-50 in touches. The Chargers play on Thursday night, so it’s possible that Ekeler’s injury prevents a quick turnaround and the Chargers elect to give him two weeks to recover, leaving the door open for Jackson and Kelley to have relevance in the fantasy playoffs. In terms of who to pick between the two, good luck. I think Jackson would have the first shot at being the starter, since he was getting reps with Ekeler to start the game this week, and the majority of Kelley’s touches came at the end of the game when the Chargers were running the clock out.
Craig Reynolds, RB DET
Who? Yeah, I don’t know either. A 25-year-old 2019 UDFA out of Kutztown University, Reynolds was the guy this week for the Lions without D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams. He totaled 99 yards on 13 touches and significantly outplayed Godwin Igwebuike the other running backs. This game might have been the career highlight for Reynolds, especially if Williams returns next week, but there is a chance he gets another shot at the starting role next week. Swift has not practiced in two weeks and depending on if Williams actually has COVID or is unvaccinated, he may miss another week.
Rashaad Penny, RB SEA
I understand Penny is rostered in over 90% of dynasty leagues, but if he is available, this is your sign that he is worth it and spend the rest of your FAAB to get him. Penny looked GOOD this week with 137 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries and was the Seahawks’ clear starter at the running back position. Granted, it was the Houston Texans, but this is the player the Seahawks thought they would get in the first round nearly four years ago. This Seattle backfield has been horrendously bad since Chris Carson’s injury, but Penny is by far the best player they have and deserves the workhorse role as long as he is healthy.
DeAndre Carter, Adam Humphries and Cam Sims, WRs WAS
Similar to the Chargers’ backup running backs, all three of these Washington receivers could see an uptick in opportunities this week if Terry McLaurin’s concussion prevents him from playing next week. In terms of who would see the most opportunities, this is also a big shoulder shrug. Humphries has been his normal PPR self all year and saw a team-high seven targets this week. Carter has been quietly solid for most of the year as well, despite a down game this week, but still saw the second most targets with five. Sims is the deep threat and had an amazing catch on a 43-yard touchdown over Trevon Diggs. If I were to add and play any of them, it would be Adam Humphries for the targets and PPR value, then Carter, then Sims, but all three seem worthy of an inquisitive add.
Braxton Berrios, WR NYJ
It wouldn’t be an end to the fantasy season if we weren’t talking about Braxton Berrios. In weeks 16 and 17 last year, Berrios had two 16+ point performances in his best Hunter Renfrow impersonation. Well, just like Eminem, guess who’s back, back again? With a team-high ten targets without Elijah Moore and Corey Davis, Berrios caught six receptions for 52 yards and the only bright spot of the Jets’ nine-point performance against the Saints. With Moore on the IR, and Davis missing the rest of the season after surgery, the Jets receiving corps is now dependent on Berrios. He could realistically go right from the waiver wire to your starting lineup because of this, as well as the fact the Jets play the Dolphins and Jaguars over the next two weeks.
