Five in Five: Week Fourteen Dynasty Storylines

Over the years, we’ve done several different weekly preview articles and love to give new things a try. This is the time of year when it’s nearly information overload with every nook and cranny of the internet flooded with all kinds of fantasy football opinions and advice. Instead of following the herd and doing the same thing you’re used to, we’re going a little off the wall this year with our “Five in Five.” This is a weekly written preview of the five biggest storylines of the week encompassed in a five-section theme. It will also be a bit of a preview for my weekly Dynasty Aftermath – the longest running dynasty series in the business as we hit year #17 in 2023 as we bring you five possible storylines we could see on Monday Morning. I’m adding another piece to this for the rest of the year and that’s a prediction of what I think could produce that particular headline.

What can Brown(ing) do for you?

There were precious few dynasty managers who thought Jake Browning would be able to keep the Bengals afloat with Joe Burrow out for the season. However, he was brilliant last week, completing 32-of-37 passes for 354 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. Even better, Ja’Marr Chase was able to post an 11/149/1 game with him at the helm and remain more than viable at the position. If Browning can stay hot against the Colts and continue to sustain value for Chase, Joe Mixon and the rest of the Bengals, this is going to be a huge development down the stretch and show dynasty managers they don’t need to bench their players off this team.

Prediction: Browning completes 25-of-35 passes with two touchdowns and one interception.

Eveything’s bigger in Texas?

With Tank Dell out for the season, this is going to open up a serious avenue for Nico Collins to make a run at WR1 status the rest of the way. After all, Collins is already having a career year with a 59/991/6 line through 11 games and posted a monster effort last week with nine catches for 191 yards and a touchdown. Losing Dell is a major blow to the Houston offense but Collins is poised to be a serious difference-maker the rest of the way as CJ Stroud‘s undisputed top target. With Dalton Schultz also on the shelf this week, Collins is in prime position for another monster day. If he can post another big score, it’s a huge story in fantasy leagues.

Prediction: Collins catches eight passes for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Time

The Vikings will get Justin Jefferson back this week and it’s a perfect time for fantasy managers as many are angling for the playoffs. While Tyreek Hill is putting up monster numbers in fantasy leagues and taking the spot as the overall WR1 temporarily, we all need to remember just how great Jefferson really is. Reportedly 100% healthy, he’s poised to carry fantasy teams to the promised land and it’s going to be very interesting to see just what he can do down the stretch. While Joshua Dobbs hasn’t been great, Jefferson is talented enough to make an average quarterback look pretty good. Can Jefferson return to form as early as this week? We’ll soon find out.

Prediction: Jefferson makes his presence known with seven catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Justin Chaos

The Chargers are a mess and the crew of Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen and others just haven’t looked right all season. Herbert has just one touchdown pass the past two weeks and Ekeler is looking like a shell of himself with three straight games with single-digit fantasy points. The Chargers (5-7) have a huge game against the Broncos (6-6). This week is going to be pivotal in determining just what we could expect moving forward. Herbert needs to have a bounce-back effort and the rest of this offense needs to show some signs of life for fantasy managers to feel comfortable with them moving forward. If things don’t click, Allen may be the only “must-start” player off this team moving forward.

Prediction: Herbert throws for 300 yards and the Chargers find a way to eek out a win.

Just Pres Play

There have been some moments where Dak Prescott has looked ordinary and others where he’s looked elite. With 3,234 passing yards, 26 touchdowns and just six interceptions on the season, it’s hard to find too many weaknesses in his game this year. The Cowboys face the Eagles this week and if Prescott can find a way to replicate his effort from their previous game where he had 374 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, it’s hard to see how you could choose many other quarterbacks over him the rest of the way. Will Dallas and Prescott keep it going or will they fall flat this week? This is a huge moment for Prescott in his dynasty fantasy football career. In fact, it may truly be the biggest game of his life.

Prediction: Prescott throws for 350 yards and three touchdowns, solidifying himself as a truly elite QB1.
