Josh Palmer reportedly has held off rookie Quentin Johnston in training camp.
This is certainly all in flux but it looks like Palmer may just hold off the rookie for snaps behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. With the historical injury history of both Chargers starters, this would be a significant development. Palmer has always shown flashes but there was likely too much dirt thrown on his grave this off-season. At WR68, Palmer is looking like a pretty solid late round pickup or throw-in trade target. Meanwhile, Quentin Johnston's ranking of WR29 is looking like it may have a little too much value baked in at the moment.

Josh Palmer was listed as one of the most consistent offensive performers in camp
Palmer continues to fly under the radar as DLF's WR68 despite good size (6'1/210) and a 72/769/3 line as a part-time starter in 2022. At only 23 years-of-age, Palmer is set to produce again in his third season and is running well ahead of rookie Quentin Johnston as the team's projected WR3. The Chargers are likely to lose at least one of their veteran receivers in 2024, which may benefit Palmer if he's able to hold off the rookie for a potential starting role in what will be his contract season. Given his low dynasty value and under-the-radar status, Josh Palmer makes for an intriguing buy-low candidate in 2023.

Josh Palmer has been a standout in camp and shouldn't be overlooked
Palmer hauled in 72 receptions last year and is clearly operating as the team's WR3 behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. He's reportedly drawn comparisons to Amari Cooper and Chris Godwin from those within the Chargers' organization and, should those be accurate, would make for huge sleeper potential in 2023 and beyond. Rookie Quentin Johnston continues to generate buzz both in camp and in dynasty circles, while Palmer flies below the radar. Listed as DLF's WR67, another solid year of production would send Josh Palmer's stock higher with the futures of Allen and Williams in question beyond 2023.

The Chargers drafted TCU wide receiver Quentin Johnston in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
With Keenan Allen aging and the long history of injuries with Mike Williams, Palmer has long been on the list of dynasty trade targets. The drafting of Johnston throws some cold water on that sentiment as he slots in as the third receiver nearly immediately. While he could certainly find value should Allen or Williams move (or when they get hurt), he's a much tougher player to hold today than yesterday. Palmer comes in as our WR54, a ranking surely to move down after the weekend.
