Five in Five: Week Four Dynasty Storylines

Ken Kelly

Over the years, we’ve done several different weekly preview articles and love to give new things a try. This is the time of year when it’s nearly information overload with every nook and cranny of the internet flooded with all kinds of fantasy football opinions and advice. Instead of following the herd and doing the same thing you’re used to, we’re going a little off the wall this year with our “Five in Five.” This is a weekly written preview of the five biggest storylines of the week encompassed in a five-section theme and in the way I love to do it – weird. It will also be a bit of a preview for my weekly Dynasty Aftermath – the longest running dynasty series in the business as we hit year #17 in 2023 as we bring you five possible storylines we could see on Monday Morning.

Lights. Kamara, Action.

The Alvin Kamara off-season suspension was only three games long so we’ll see him back on the field this Sunday. He’s going to be a pretty welcome sight for a Saints team likely without Derek Carr for a bit. Kamara hasn’t fared well with Jameis Winston at the helm but Jamaal Williams is already on the shelf and the Saints need Kamara in a bad way. He’s seemingly lost a step or two over the past two seasons so it’s going to be very interesting to see just how many carries and touches he gets right out of the gate. Dynasty managers are surely hoping he returns to form as a borderline RB1 because there just aren’t many of those out there any longer. Will we see vintage AK starting this week?

Ridley’s Believe it or Not

The Jaguars snagged Calvin Ridley from Atlanta last year as he was serving a suspension of his own. His first regular season game back gave us all hope he was back to being an elite performer as he posted eight catches on 11 targets for 101 yards and a touchdown. However, his last two games have been duds as he’s recorded just five catches for 72 scoreless yards in those two contests combined. There are questions if Ridley is truly going to be the WR1 in Jacksonville this season and an early game Sunday in London should go a long way in answering that question. You can even tune in to a Toy Story version of the game, apparently. Will Ridley emerge again or should we put him in Andy’s cardboard box and send him away to a new home?

Chicken of the AF-SEA?

The Dolphins became the first team to score 70 points and post over 700 yards in an NFL game last week in their destruction of the Broncos. Things won’t be so easy this week as they play in the game of the week against the Bills. If this offense continues to hum, the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Jaylen Waddle, Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert, and De’Von Achane could all put up some pretty historic numbers this season. Achane is the big question after his monster performance last week. Has he earned a bigger piece of the pie in the NFL’s most explosive offense? Can he and Mostert both provide fantasy value if they’re working in a timeshare?

Earning his Stripes

The contract the Bengals gave Joe Burrow was massive as it at least made him the richest person in my hometown if he ever decided to move here. However, the early returns for the Bengals have not been good and with just 563 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in three games, Burrow just hasn’t looked like himself. It would be great to see him post a vintage day as it would make dynasty managers feel a lot better about the likes of Ja’Marr Chase, Joe Mixon, Tee Higgins and the rest of the Cincinnati offense.

All Charged Up

The Chargers lost Mike Williams to a torn ACL and many dynasty enthusiasts think it’s Quentin Johnston time in Los Angeles. I’m not so sure. Joshua Palmer has outplayed Johnston from the start of training camp and has simply looked like the better player at every turn since the 2023 NFL Draft. The snap share, target share and playing time of these two opposite target hog Keenan Allen is going to be a huge storyline Sunday as the Chargers look to replace Williams this season. I’m just not so sure Johnston is going to somehow live up to the hype this quickly. We’ll see if I’m right.

Make sure you get your lineup questions in this week as I’ll answer them through tonight. We’ll see you next week for the Dynasty Aftermath!
