Four Disappointing Players to Buy Now

Michael Faiella

Fantasy Football can be frustrating, especially when you are getting subpar production from players you thought were going to take off. In this article, we want to leverage that frustration of our league mates to trade for players who they are looking to offload for less than their actual value.

As the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure or something like that anyway.

So let’s look at some players in the midst of disappointing seasons that we should be scooping up now before their value takes off!

Breece Hall, RB, NYJ

Types of Teams that Should be Looking to Acquire: Contenders, Middling, Rebuilders

Breece Hall came into the season with sky-high expectations. Being touted as the new dynasty RB1 in the preseason by many, Hall has had what many would consider an extremely disappointing season sitting at the RB15 and currently nursing a knee injury. Hall has seen his ADP drop in the same trajectory as his productivity and his managers who are still playing for a title are jumping ship for players like Bucky Irving and David Montgomery (as seen in our Trade Finder Tool) just to get points now.

So why should you take on someone else’s problem?

Well, a few reasons:

First off, if he does come back as the Jets have said he will, his playoff schedule is an absolute dream as he faces the Jaguars (31st against opposing RBs), the Rams (18th), and the Bills (30th).

Secondly, everything is about to change in New York with a new head coach and QB coming into the picture. Rodgers and his reluctance to check down to the RB will be another poverty franchise’s problem soon enough.

And third, Braelon Allen has hardly capitalized on the opportunity to steal workload from Hall in his absence.

All of this to say, buy the panic and profit either now or next year. All teams should be calling about Hall right now to see what the price is before any positive news comes out about him.

Marquise Brown, WR, KCC

Types of Teams that Should be Looking to Acquire: Contenders, Middling

Reports out of KC are that Hollywood could see the field as early as Week 16. With this news, we are seeing his ADP creep up a little after plummeting post-injury. His value has come close to a one-for-one swap with such meh talents as Dontayvion Wicks, Cole Kmet, and Josh Palmer who have nowhere near the upside that a healthy Hollywood Brown possesses.

Now, while I am saying that a Contender should acquire him, that is for next year. I do not expect Hollywood to contribute during the fantasy playoffs at all. But grabbing him now, will lock him in at near injury price before a potential NFL playoffs bump occurs.

I’d be trying to send a third and a roster clogger or the guys mentioned above to grab the 27-year-old Brown.

Jaylen Wright, RB, MIA

Types of Teams that Should be Looking to Acquire: Middling, Rebuilders

When Wright was drafted by the Dolphins, everyone preached patience. The play was never for this year and any on-field time would just be a bonus. Well, we got that bonus and what happened? His ADP dropped 3 full rounds since September.

Now I know De’Von Achane looks incredible and the usage has been higher than we expected but if you look closer, the damage has been done mostly through the air and his between-the-tackles running has been mediocre at best.

I still think there is a very good chance for Wright to take a portion of that job and pay off at a much higher upside than his ADP mates Audric Estime, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Tyler Lockett.

I expect his ADP to rise 2-3 rounds in the coming season and then you can reap the benefits or trade him out for a name you like better in the new value range.

Diontae Johnson, WR, BAL

Types of Teams that Should be Looking to Acquire: No one, just seeing if you are paying attention

Jaylen Waddle, WR, MIA

Types of Teams that Should be Looking to Acquire: Contenders, Middling

I had to stick a Diontae joke in there so I didn’t have back-to-back Miami Jaylen W’s but Waddle is a huge buy for me right now. Miami has been a hot mess this year with Tua going down with another concussion and the timing offense just being off all season. But don’t forget that league-winning upside doesn’t disappear overnight and Waddle has fallen in the George Pickens and Deebo Samuel range. He’s a smash buy at that price because Miami is either going to right the ship these next few weeks or change the skipper (sorry I love McDaniel too but he’s been pretty bad).

These changes along with an aging partner in crime make Waddle the perfect buy at the moment. The trade finder has some really lowball offers being accepted so kick the tires and make some magic happen!

These four players are just a subset of players that league winners acquire each year to build a true dynasty. Sure they carry some risk, but scared money don’t make money as they say.

This time of year is perfect for trading as people are going all in for a title and week one of the playoffs gives you the largest amount of teams looking to acquire points. Happy trading everyone!
