2025 Dynasty Fantasy Football Rookie Profile: Matthew Golden, WR Texas

Brandon Haye

Matthew Golden was the 210th overall prospect in the 2022 class and was ranked the 29th best wide receiver. In 2023, Houston dropped off as a team, and Golden transferred to Texas. He started slow but became one of the go-to receivers even though he was competing with fellow transfer Isaiah Bond. His late breakout has moved him up the boards, and he could be one of the first wide receivers off the board in the draft.

The Stats

Golden had a promising start to his freshman season. Tank Dell was the team leader with over 100 catches, but Golden finished with over 500 yards for third on the team in receiving. Despite Dell heading off to the NFL, Golden did not break out and finished again as the third leading receiver in yards. The problem was that he had fewer yards, and the team struggled all year.

He did not get off to a great start at Texas but found his stride near the end of the year. In his first ten games of the season, he combined for 417 yards, but in the last six games, he totaled 570 yards. That included two games over 100 yards in the conference championship and playoff. At Texas, Golden had the highest catch rate of his career and had a contested catch rate of over 67%. Four of his nine touchdowns came over 20 yards, showing his ability to make plays deep.
