IDP Snap Counts: Week Ten

Tom Kislingbury

Well that proved to be an absolutely thrilling week didn’t it? From an IDP perspective it’s getting interesting now. A lot of teams tend to start playing younger players now if they think they’re out of real contention. So, we need to keep an eye out to spot the hot young talent being given a chance.

Arizona Cardinals

The Cards played 85 defensive snaps this week. They’re third in defensive playing time for the season.

LB Haason Reddick played 64 snaps this week. It was his highest total since week seven. He’s still not a 100% player though with Joe Walker (24) sneaking snaps away.

Safety Deionte Thompson missed the game allowing Jalen Thompson (82) to play free safety. Ignore him.

Atlanta Falcons

Wow. The Falcons finally found some pass rush and it was spectacular.

Before this game they’d had 99 pressures and eight sacks over the season – the worst pass rushing team in the league.

In this game they managed 35 pressures and seven sacks.

Damontae Kazee (62) moved back to free safety for this game. He played deep last year, too, but he scored well (with a load of interceptions), so lots of people think he played in the box. You can probably trade him based on this.

Baltimore Ravens

This was a stroll for the Ravens so take any info with a pinch of salt.

The likes of Brandon Williams (59) and Chris Wormley (47) played more than they normally would.

At LB Josh Bynes (46), Patrick Onwuasor (22) and LJ Fort (16) all saw time. Expect the ratio to change greatly going forwards.

Chuck Clark (75) continues to be a full-time strong safety. You should have picked him up weeks ago.

Buffalo Bills

There were no big surprises here, but it was nice t see both LBs have big games. Tremaine Edmunds and Matt Milano (both 70) have been quietly good all year waiting for IDP splash scores.

Carolina Panthers

Corner James Bradberry missed the game allowing Javien Elliott (32) to get some playing time.

On the edge Mario Addison (57) returned. Bruce Irvin also played 57 on the other side. Brian Burns (11) took a knock but would likely have played fewer snaps anyway. He’s been doing that for weeks. If someone tries to tell you how great he’s been, they’re remembering his early season high sack-to-pressure ratio. He’s been quiet for a while in parallel with his reduced playing time.

Chicago Bears

LB Danny Trevathan suffered a horrific elbow injury which limited him to just 17 snaps. He’s almost certain to miss some games. Best wishes to him for his recovery.

In his absence Nick Kwiatkoski (65) stepped in to play next to Roquan Smith (74). He’s just a guy really, but he’s been productive before.

Khalil Mack (73) managed five sacks from 27 pressures in his first four games. In his next five games he’s managed just 17 pressures and a single sack.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals played just 47 snaps against the Ravens. The Ravens are controlling the ball better than any other team in the NFL this season.

On the edge we saw Sam Hubbard (38) play a lot. He’s the best DE against the run on this team. Carlos Dunlap (31) was next with Carl Lawson (21) way back. Lawson is a specialist pass rusher. With the Ravens running option and single wing plays, there’s not much opportunity for someone like him.

Cleveland Browns

Olivier Vernon missed this game which opened it up for Chad Thomas as the number three DE. He played 54 snaps and recorded a sack.

Damarious Randall returned to health at safety which helped cover for Jermaine Whitehead being gone. Morgan Burnett (69) is the safety to own here.

Dallas Cowboys

Michael Bennett (45) again played a relatively heavy load. Robert Quinn (54) and Demarcus Lawrence (49) are seeing similar playing time.

Leighton Vander Esch was fit after missing last week. He played 74 snaps with Sean Lee dropping to 46.

At safety Jeff Heath played just ten snaps after hurting his leg. Darian Thompson (66) was the next man up alongside Xavier Woods (71).

Denver Broncos

The team enjoyed a bye to rest up this week.

Detroit Lions

Trey Flowers (50) has got a lot of criticism from Lions fans. They must have thought he was the sort of glamour edge rusher who piles up gaudy stats but abandons his edge. He’s not that. He’s extremely disciplined, has rock-solid technique and is just quietly effective. In his past three games he has four sacks and nine solo tackles.

Tracy Walker has now missed the last two games. Tavon Wilson (56) is a fine IDP starter right now. With Will Harris (57) less attractive because he’s playing deep.

Green Bay Packers

Kevin King (73) is playing opposite Jaire Alexander (73). King is one of the less stable defenders in the NFL. He can make great plays on the ball, but he also regularly misses big tackles and his concentration is all over the place.

Kenny Clark (63) is playing a ridiculous amount. He’s played 560 defensive snaps this season. He leads all DTs in playing time.

Ibraheim Camppbell (42) came in at “safety” this week for the Packers. In reality he was playing their dime LB role. He’s just a guy but this is a productive role.

Houston Texans

The team enjoyed a bye week to rest up this week.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts lost to Miami. Oh dear.

Darius Leonard was absurdly good this week. He was a clear sell candidate in the off-season, but of you do own him and didn’t take advantage of ridiculous prices you can at least enjoy weeks like this.

Safety cleared up a bit. Malik Hooker (66) is of course the FS. Khari Willis (60) seems to be winning the SS job ahead of George Odum (20) and Clayton Geathers (six).

Jacksonville Jaguars

The team enjoyed a bye week to rest up this week.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs played just 52 defensive snaps against the boring Titans.

Frank Clark returned to play 42 snaps but Tanoh Kpassagnin stayed high with 40 ahead of Emmanuel Ogbah (23). Neither is very good.

LB is also tough pickings. Anthony Hitchens (36) and Damien Wilson (27) led the group. But Reggie Ragland (17) and Ben Niemann (16) also are seeing time. None of them are very startable.

Los Angeles Chargers

Melvin Ingram (55) had a big game playing opposite Joey Bosa (55).

Drue Tranquill (58) played the full game at LB opposite Thomas Davis (57). It’s possible Tranquill has won a big role gong forwards but we think that every few weeks for the Chargers. Don’t assume it will be true this time.

Los Angeles Rams

Troy Hill (74) is an intriguing choice as a CB in IDP leagues. He’s playing across from Jalen Ramsey (74) and that’s just good business.

The Rams still do not have a second full-time LB. Don’t waste your time looking for one.

Miami Dolphins

DE Charles Harris (16) actually made a really nice play in the run game this week. Madness.

Taco Charlton is playing better at the moment than he was when he was recording sacks. He’s still bad though.

Raekwon McMillan (44) had a good game but this was against the run-heavy Colts. They rushed the ball 29 times and completed just 18 passes. That’s a McMillan game-script.

Minnesota Vikings

Boring. The Vikings are trotting the same personnel out week after week. Great for them but not much fun for us.

One change this week was Trae Waynes missing the game at corner. And allowing Mike Hughes (65) to play almost the whole game.

The other was DT Linval Joseph missing the game. Jaleel Johnson (43) picked up his snaps.

New England Patriots

The team enjoyed a bye week to rest up this week.

New Orleans Saints

P.J. Williams (68) returned at corner for the Saints. He hadn’t played since week six. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson (37) lost snaps. Marshon Lattimore (34) took a knock and missed time so the picture was a little muddy.

Marcus Davenport (40) has played limited snaps in his last two games with the team trying to find room for Trey Hendrickson (20). Davenport has been excellent this season, but this is worrying.

New York Jets

CB Darryl Roberts missed the game. Arthur Maulet (71) stepped in to cover. Blessuan Austin (49) also saw playing time. Who are these people?

James Burgess (71) and Brandon Copeland (72) continue to lay at inside LB. Burgess actually played OK (although he is bad) but Copeland continues to be awful.

Burgess on the season has been targeted 17 times and given up 14 catches for 184 yards – and two touchdowns.

Copeland is somehow even worse. He has 13 targets this year and has allowed all of them to be completed for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Remember: in the modern game coverage is enormously important for LBs. They are no longer head-down gap-stuffers. The Jets have maybe the worst LB situation in the NFL right now.

New York Giants

No major changes for the Giants this week.

B.J. Hill again played just 18 snaps this week. He’s the fourth lineman on a team where only three play consistently.

Oakland Raiders

Maxx Crosby (70) continues to play more than any other Raiders lineman. He’s averaged 70 snaps in the past three games. Clelin Ferrell (56) has averaged 51 in the same period. Benson Mayowa (33) way back on just 29.

Crosby isn’t very good but clearly the staff like him and he’s been productive.

Philadelphia Eagles

The team enjoyed a bye to rest up this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers

LB Devin Bush (35) took a knock this week allowing Mark Barron (71) to play full-time. Vince Williams (11) remains a bit-part player.

Nose tackle Javon Hargrave (56) has played over 50 snaps two weeks in a row. With 357 snaps this season he’s already closing in on his heaviest ever year. He’s playing so much because Stephon Tuitt is out of action of course.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks played an enormous 88 snaps this week against the 49ers. Their average previously had been 68 snaps per game. This is the effect of the 49ers ball-control offense.

Safety Quandre Diggs (88) made his debut last night and played free safety with Bradley McDougald (88) at SS.

Lineman Quinton Jefferson (61) returned from missing the last couple of games. It cost Ziggy Ansah (14), Rasheem Green (16) and LJ Collier (zero) snaps.

San Francisco 49ers

LB Dre Greenlaw (71) played a full-time role with Kwon Alexander on IR. Fred Warner (74) retains the other job of course.

On the line we see a case of haves and have-nots. Arik Armstead (69), Nick Bosa (61) and DeForest Buckner (70) are all playing a lot.

Dee Ford (23), Ronald Blair (14), Solomon Thomas (29) and D.J. Jones (nine) are not. Adjust accordingly.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At corner Carlton Davis continues to miss games. Sean Murphy-Bunting (70) is leading the way in snaps with Vernon Hargreaves (46) the second option. Hargreaves was benched in the third quarter of this game which let Jamel Dean (32) in. [Eds. note: Hargreaves was waived by the Buccaneers Monday and claimed by the Texans (the only team to put in a claim) Tuesday.]

M.J. Stewart (42) is the slot DB and had a big game this week. He’s a fun player but he’s a tough start given how little he’s been playing.

Tennessee Titans

LB Jayon Brown missed this week. Wesley Woodyard (63) stepped in to cover alongside Rashaan Evans (70).

Harold Landry (64) remains the only edge rusher to own on this team. Kamalei Correa (39) has been the second option but is way behind. Cam Wake (14) has averaged just 20 snaps all season long. That’s not a good IDP bet.

Washington Redskins

The team enjoyed a bye to rest up this week.

Good luck on waivers everyone!
