The Dynasty Aftermath: Veterans Edition

Welcome to DLF’s Dynasty Aftermath. This staple article is our longest running signature piece as we have a little fun after a tough week at the Dynasty League Football office. You’ll find this article will review the week’s happenings in a variety of ways and help set you up for the coming weeks as we spin around the league in the way we know best. Expect it each and every week.

I’ve written this column for over a decade and I always forget how much I truly enjoy it. I love combing through the stats of the week, putting together ridiculous lineups, finding waiver wire gems, picking MVPs/LVPs and discussing things to worry about.

That’s not all.

I also really love sharing little bits of my life with the community of DLF and picking a theme for this column each week. This year, I’m going off the rails a bit. I’m not just exclusively choosing movies or TV shows and sticking with them. I’m simply picking something relevant, wacky or whatever may come into my mind each given week. My hope is each week will at least be interesting in some way and hopefully make you laugh a few times along the way.

This week is a little different.

As we saluted our veterans this weekend, things kind of hit me. We talk about our great servicemen and women a couple of days each year, then carry on with our daily lives. Every day should have an element of respect for the lives lost and time so many have given to protect our freedom. This week, there are no stories or jokes. I think of my Grandfather who served in World War II and still refuses to talk about it. I think of people like Pat Tillman who risked everything for a higher cause. I think of so many who don’t get thanked enough and simply say…thank you.

Week Ten Fantasy MVP

The tight end position has been a little disappointing this year but those lucky dynasty owners who have Zach Ertz or Travis Kelce have had a huge competitive advantage. Ertz was amazing this week with 14 catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. The point differential between Ertz and the second tier tight ends this year is getting close to ten points per week, which is enormous.

Week Ten Fantasy LVP

Speaking of tight ends, OJ Howard has been great nearly all season. Unfortunately, this was not his week as he had just one catch for 15 yards. If you had Howard in your lineup and were playing against Ertz, you likely had around 40 points to make up in other spots and that likely proved pretty difficult.

Gut Checks

I’d be worried if I didn’t think Aaron Jones was going to get a real chance to shine after the best Packers running back performance since…wait for it…Samkon Gado.

I’d be worried if I was relying on Cooper Kupp to bring me a title. Injuries stink.

I’d be worried if I had Le’Veon Bell. Things should get better but we also shouldn’t underestimate how well the Steelers used him. Another team may not be a fantasy goldmine.

I’d be worried if I thought David Johnson was done.

I’d be worried if I owned Rob Gronkowski.

I’d be worried if I was still holding out much hope for Chris Hogan.

I’d be worried if I hadn’t determined if I was a contender or pretender and responded accordingly with roster moves.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the numbers being put up by Mitchell Trubisky.

I’d be worried if I owned Sony Michel. I just don’t trust him to stay healthy.

I’d be worried if I was playing against Davante Adams. Remember when he was going to be a bust after his first two years?

I’d be worried if I was still holding on to Terrelle Pryor.

I’d be worried if I was starting Jordan Howard.

I’d be worried if I thought Golden Tate wouldn’t be a lot better in the coming weeks.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring how good Eric Ebron has really been this year.

I’d be worried if I was relying on any Raider.

I’d be worried if I owned Paul Richardson. That didn’t work out at all.

‘I’d be worried if I thought LeSean McCoy has suddenly turned a corner.

I’d be worried if I owned Kenyan Drake. The Dolphins strategy of not giving their best players the ball is interesting.

I’d be worried if I was ignoring the improvement from Jaylen Samuels.

I’d be worried if I was starting Jimmy Graham. It’s not translating.

I’d be worried if I really thought Keenan Allen wasn’t going to finally score.

I’d be worried if I was starting any Seattle running back. Just when you thought you had it…

Free Agent Find of the Week

Here’s the deal. I feel like this section of the aftermath has become a little redundant. We already post a waiver wire article each week to prep you for your weekly FAAB run or to burn your waiver priority. It’s feeling a little like double dipping since many of the same names could easily mentioned. Instead of doing that in the future, I’m going to add a name or two of players who are likely free agents in your league who you really wouldn’t even need to use your FAAB bid bucks. These are going to be deep dive players here and most are names to simply keep an eye on unless you have an open roster spot or two.

Mo Alie-Cox, TE IND

Alie-Cox is a former VCU basketball player who stands 6’5″ and weighs 267 pounds. He has great athleticism and while the Colts are highly unlikely to keep two tight ends fantasy viable, no less three, Alie-Cox has scored in two straight games. As a player who will be a free agent at the end of the year, there’s reason for him at least being on watch lists.
