2025 Dynasty Rookie Early Look: Tetairoa McMillan, WR Arizona

Justin Taylor

Former Arizona product Tetairoa McMillan is widely considered the top 2025 wide receiver prospect. Blessed with great size and decent enough speed, McMillan has all the makings of a successful NFL wide receiver. He was extremely consistent and productive in college.

McMillan is receiving comparisons to players like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Mike Evans and the Atlanta Falcons’ Drake London. Those are lofty expectations, but I think they are accurate. Everything is pointing to McMillan being the top receiver drafted in this year’s class.

Recruitment

Born in Hawaii, McMillan had an outstanding high school career in Southern California. He was rated either a four-star or five-star recruit by all the major scouting services. McMillan was the highest-rated football signee in Arizona program history.

Collegiate Career

McMillan made an immediate impact once he arrived on campus. The true freshman led all first-year players nationally with 702 yards receiving. He did that on 39 receptions with eight going for touchdowns.

McMillan really broke out his sophomore season with 90 receptions for 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns for an upstart Wildcats’ team. This put him on the map nationally, and made him a big devy asset for dynasty fantasy managers.

Arizona struggled a bit this past season, but McMillan was still able to put up similar numbers to his sophomore season with 84 catches for 1,319 yards and eight touchdowns in one less game.

McMillan immediately showed his 2024 campaign wasn’t a fluke when he went for 304 yards and four touchdowns on 10 catches in the season opener against New Mexico. He had two more 10+ reception games and four more 100+ yard games throughout the season.

Strengths

  • Elite size at 6’5, 212 pounds
  • Plays as big as his actual size
  • Good route runner with ability to run short, intermediate, and deep routes
  • Top-end ball tracking ability
  • Elite contested catch ability

Weaknesses

  • Doesn’t have elite burst off the line
  • Relies a little too much on bullying smaller players with his size advantage
  • Needs work on blocking technique
  • Needs to work on release against press coverage

Draft Value

McMillan has been consistently chosen as a top-ten pick in mock drafts. He has gone as high as pick four and as low as pick eight. It seems hard to imagine a situation where McMillan isn’t taken in the top ten of the 2025 Draft, making him an easy top-four fantasy pick.

There are a bunch of teams that need help on the outside, and he is exactly what you want as an X-receiver. There are a few likely landing spots for McMillan, before any possible trades occur. The Tennessee Titans are a team he was being mocked to a lot early on, but that’s when Tennessee was expected to pick somewhere between six and ten. But now that the Titans have secured the top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, would they spend the top pick on a wide receiver? No wide receiver has gone number one overall in the draft since Keyshawn Johnson was taken by the New York Jets in 1996. Before Johnson, the only other wide receivers to go number one overall were Irving Fryar in 1984 to the New England Patriots and Dave Parks to the San Francisco 49ers in 1964.

The Titans could always trade back if they decide they want to give Will Levis another year at quarterback and grab McMillan, but it is more likely that the Titans take a quarterback, causing McMillan to drop.

In all honesty, every team picking in the top ten could use help at wide receiver. It just depends on who thinks they need help the most. Other potential landing spots are the New England Patriots at number four. The Patriots already drafted their franchise QB last year with Drake Maye, so getting him a high-end WR1 is definitely a priority.

If the Patriots skip on him, other potential landing spots would be the Las Vegas Raiders at six, the Carolina Panthers at eight, and the New Orleans Saints at nine. I would be very surprised if McMillan fell out of the top ten.

Dynasty Outlook

McMillan should most likely be the top wide receiver off the board in the NFL Draft, depending on how you look at Colorado’s Travis Hunter. If Hunter says he is going to be a full-time WR and part-time DB then that could change things. According to most mock drafts, Hunter is slated to be drafted ahead of McMillan, but most pundits consider Hunter to be more likely to be a full-time cornerback and part-time wide receiver.

McMillan projects as a potential high-end NFL starter with All-Pro upside at the next level. In 1QB dynasty fantasy leagues, McMillan is likely to be the 1.01 or 1.02 in rookie drafts. In superflex or 2QB leagues, McMillan could still go in the top two, but I can’t see him falling outside of the top five in any rookie drafts.
