Jeff Mueller

My name is Jeff Mueller, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and I am here to help guide you through these weekly injuries and provide helpful insight into how bad the injury is and what the expected timeline for recovery is for your key player. The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.

Trevor Lawrence, QB JAC

Injury: Right Shoulder

Return to Play: Week 17-18

Fantasy Impact: By video, it appeared to be a typical AC sprain mechanism as Lawrence fell onto his right side while rushing out of bounds. The MRI results came back as a sprained shoulder and day-to-day label. It would not surprise me if he found a way to play in week 17 to keep his active starting streak alive. As long as pain is minimal and he displays the ability to throw accuracy without issue, expect him to suit up.

Brock Purdy, QB SF

Injury: Left Stinger

Return to Play: Week 17

Fantasy Impact: Purdy was cleared to return to the game after suffering a stinger aggravation for the second week, but was held out due to the score and offensive line situation. Early reports are that he is expected to play in week 17, which opens up a fantastic matchup versus Washington.

Raheem Mostert, RB MIA

Injury: Left Knee

Return to Play: Week 17

Fantasy Impact: Despite suffering an MCL mechanism injury early in the game, he was able to return and play the remainder of the game with minimal production dip. His knee likely swelled and was painful afterwards, but as of now, I would anticipate him playing in week 17.

Isiah Pacheco, RB KC

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 17-18

Fantasy Impact: Despite returning from his shoulder injury, Pacheco left early after suffering a concussion. He will enter protocol and be required to clear all stages in order to play in week 17.

DJ Moore, WR CHI

Injury: Right High Ankle

Return to Play: Week 17-18

Fantasy Impact: Moore was able to return to the game despite what looked to be a significant high ankle sprain by video. He was not as effective as he typically is, and told reporters that he is going to push to play week 17. If he does, just know that there is likely some production dip to be expected while playing with a high ankle sprain.

Jaylen Waddle, WR MIA

Injury: High Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: NFL Playoffs

Fantasy Impact: Reportedly, Waddle’s shin injury turns out to be a high ankle sprain that is expected to keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. For DFS purposes, he would be a risky play in his first few games back. Cedrick Wilson is the next man up but he has been inconsistent.

Courtland Sutton, WR DEN

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 17-18

Fantasy Impact: Concussions remain highly unpredictable. He will enter concussion protocol and need to clear all stages in order to play in week 17. Monitor his practice status.

Garrett Wilson, WR NYJ

Injury: Left Ankle

Return to Play: Week 17

Fantasy Impact: Despite hopping off of the field without putting weight on his left ankle, Wilson was able to tape up and return to the game, playing fairly well. It was likely a minor ankle sprain that should not impact his ability to play in week 17.

Dontayvion Wicks, WR GB

Injury: Chest

Return to Play: Week 17-18

Fantasy Impact: The Packers WR group is hurting. Wicks left early after suffering a chest injury, which is concerning if it involves rib cartilage. I would anticipate him being out in week 17, but the Packers may have both Christian Watson and Jaylen Reed back.

Jordan Addison, WR MIN

Injury: Ankle Sprain

Return to Play: Week 18-TBD

Fantasy Impact: After absorbing friendly fire on a tough hit near the sideline, Addison suffered an ankle sprain that will likely keep him out for the rest of the regular season. If the Vikings make playoffs, he is expected to return then.

TJ Hockenson, TE MIN

Injury: Right Knee, ACL and MCL

Return to Play: Season-Ending

Fantasy Impact: While still awaiting results of his MRI, early reports indicate that the Vikings are anticipating bad news in regards to his injury. By video and the fact that he was ruled out very quickly upon going to the locker room, it looked to be a significant MCL sprain mechanism with concern of a possible ACL given the impact from the defender into his knee, though his foot was not fully planted and cleared so he may have gotten lucky. Keep monitoring for news, but you will not have the TE1 for the championship week.

Note: Confirmed that Hockenson tore his ACL and MCL. His season is now over. With surgery likely delayed a few weeks, week one of the 2024 season will mark close to 7.5 months out, so he might start on PUP and miss half the season. He is still worth a buy low.

Cole Kmet, TE CHI

Injury: Knee

Return to Play: Season-Ending

Fantasy Impact: After entering week 16 with a soft tissue injury, he picked up a knee injury that will likely keep him out for the remainder of the regular season. Avoid the other Chicago tight ends.
