Dynasty Injury Report: Week 12

Jeff Mueller

My name is Jeff Mueller, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and I am here to help guide you through these weekly injuries and provide helpful insight into how bad the injury is and what the expected timeline for recovery is for your key player. The weekly injury roundup will be posted on Wednesdays to discuss injuries that just occurred. I would also encourage you to tune in to the DLF YouTube channel (make sure to subscribe!) to tune in to helpful content throughout the week.

Baker Mayfield, QB TB

Injury: Right ankle

Return to Play: Week 13-14

Fantasy Impact: While he is set to undergo further testing on his ankle this week, as of right now I do not anticipate this keeping him from playing in week 13 unless it is a more severe high ankle sprain than they anticipated. He was able to return to the game after having it taped up and played well the rest of the game. Keep an eye on results from his imaging but for now, assume he plays.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB CLE

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 13-14

Fantasy Impact: The majority of players to have entered concussion protocol have missed at least one game, so this week will be telling for the Browns quarterback. He will need to clear all stages of the protocol in order to return this coming week. If not, PJ Walker is the next man up.

Jonathan Taylor, RB IND

Injury: Thumb

Return to Play: TBD

Fantasy Impact: News just dropped that Taylor suffered a thumb injury that requires further evaluation and may put his status in doubt moving forward. If there is ligament damage, it would make ball security a challenge or could require surgery if bad enough, or if there is a fracture then he may require a pin but could probably return within a few weeks. Hopefully we hear more soon, but this news is not ideal. Brace yourselves.

Travis Etienne, RB JAC

Injury: Chest

Return to Play: Week 13

Fantasy Impact: He missed a few snaps and entered the locker room early after suffering a chest injury, but was able to return and play the remainder of the game. He was likely dealing with bruised ribs and a muscle contusion. If this was more significant like a rib cartilage injury, we would have heard about it by now. I do not anticipate this limiting him in week 13.

Javonte Williams, RB DEN

Injury: Neck/Stinger

Return to Play: Week 13

Fantasy Impact: After missing a few snaps, reports surfaced that Williams had suffered a stinger prior to being able to return to the field. This is a fairly typical presentation with stingers, as players can often return quickly after symptoms resolve. It sounds like it was a true stinger versus a more significant neck injury, so this should not be an issue for him in week 13 or beyond.

Chris Olave, WR NO

Injury: Concussion

Return to Play: Week 13-14

Fantasy Impact: Olave becomes the next wide receiver we monitor in the concussion protocol. The majority of players have missed at least one game, and he does have past history of suffering a concussion, now having two in the last two seasons. While he has a chance to clear all five stages of the protocol like any player, I am operating under the assumption that he misses week 13 so that I have a good backup option lined up early in the week.

Rashid Shaheed, WR NO

Injury: Thigh

Return to Play: Week 14-15

Fantasy Impact: Often troublesome for speedy wide receivers, Shaheed was knocked out of the game with a thigh muscle strain that will likely cost him several weeks. The Saints will more than likely be without their top three wide receivers in week 13. I would anticipate Alvin Kamara and Juwan Johnson dominating targets, unless the team decides to throw AT Perry into a bigger role. Taysom Hill will also get his shots.

Demario Douglas, WR NE

Injury: Neck

Return to Play: Week 13-14

Fantasy Impact: Not sure if you saw the video, but Douglas took a nasty arm-bar hit from a defender on a punt return. He was evaluated for a concussion but post-game he told reporters that he did not suffer a concussion. He is officially listed with a neck injury, so monitor his status in practice. I do think there is a decent chance he will suit up in week 13, but I cannot imagine how sore his neck must be since the game.

Amari Cooper, WR CLE

Injury: Ribs

Return to Play: Week 13-14

Fantasy Impact: The good news is that Cooper’s imaging on his ribs came back negative, meaning no rib cartilage damage or fractures. His return to the field is likely dependent on pain, so monitor his status throughout this week. With this news, I do think there is a more likely than not chance that he is able to suit up for week 13.

I hope this information helps as the week goes on. Follow me on Twitter/X @jmthrivept for further injury analysis and updates.
