Twitter Observations: Week One
While some would argue the world might be a better place without Twitter, there’s no doubt it’s been a plus for the fantasy community. Nowhere else can fantasy (and real life!) players share information while also collectively commiserating about their lineups. And of course we, as dynasty players, have even more knowledge to gain from the hundreds of twitter accounts we follow.
This space will be dedicated to an assortment of things we find on Twitter and what it means for our dynasty teams. Most fantasy tweets undoubtedly have a re-draft slant to it but we’re here to talk about the dynasty implications.
As the AB turns

To be fair, we could have used any number of tweets pertaining to Antonio Brown in the last seven days including, but certainly not limited to: his near-fight with Raiders management, his demand to leave Oakland and, finally, his swift signing with the Patriots. But at the end of the weekend, the tweet above is all that mattered.
Dynasty Impact: Brown’s dynasty ranking was already down a bit thanks to the downgrade at quarterback he was going to see in Oakland. For many years, Brown was the top dynasty receiver but he, deservedly, dropped to a low-end WR1/high-end WR2. After the antics that led to his release, some dynasty rankers left him off completely. But with the Patriots swooping in to save his career, his current DLF ranking has settled in at 18 which could end up being a bargain for the next two-three seasons.
Through it all, Brown may now be one of the more polarizing players to assess in dynasty terms. Some will take his landing spot in New England as a clear sign that he will still be the same AB who has won several people dynasty championships, while others will want nothing to do with him. Either way, it’s never a dull moment to have Brown on your team.
Have a day TJ
#Lions TE T.J. Hockenson (@TheeHOCK8) has set an @NFL record for receiving yards in a tight end's first game with 124 yards, passing 49ers TE Monty Stickles' previous record of 123 receiving yards, which he set on Sept. 25, 1960.#OnePride

While many thought TJ Hockenson would be good, I don’t know that anyone thought it would start in week one. The tweet speaks for itself as Hockenson had a very good day and clearly already has a rapport with Matthew Stafford. Playing the Cardinals helped but, nonetheless, it was a very promising start.
Dynasty Impact: Turning in a top-three fantasy performance in the first game of your career will make you pretty untouchable. If you were one of those that took the plunge with Hockenson in the first round of rookie drafts, you might have your tight end for the next decade. And if you don’t, there’s no point in trading for him as his current dynasty owners will (rightfully?) view him as the next Rob Gronkowski. It would be a stunner to see Hockenson traded in any league this week.
Can Dolphins tank in the ocean?
A 59-10 loss has consequences — including multiple players from the losing team wanting to flee what they perceive to be a deliberately sinking ship https://t.co/kpqcxuyFEU

The first rule of tanking is you don’t talk about tanking. And while the Dolphins haven’t said it, their actions are speaking much louder than words. From signing no one of significance in free agency, to the draft day deals for 2020 picks, to the fire sale happening before the season, it’s clear to anyone with a pulse that Dolphins management could not care less about the 2019 season. And after the season-opening blowout on Sunday, it seems like that sentiment has finally made its way to the players.
Dynasty Impact: As a team, the Dolphins ran for 21 yards while their leading receiver was perpetually promising DeVante Parker with 75 yards. Dynasty players already knew to avoid most Dolphin players this season but this game and subsequent tweet just confirmed it. Fun fact: there are no Dolphins quarterbacks, running backs, or receivers currently ranked in the top 30 at their position on DLF’s rankings. The only dynasty implication to check for in Miami is which quarterback they’ll take in 2020.
The champ is here
Among the many things we’d prepared for @gmfb that died a quick death with the AB news was this snapshot of the wall in the #Texans’ weight room. Players write their goals and most guys put up stuff about flexibility and body fat. DeAndre Hopkins said nah, I’m aiming higher. pic.twitter.com/0oJAPXJz49

Hopkins has some lofty goals this season which both Texans and fantasy fans would love to see. He’s off to a good start too as his two touchdowns in week one currently have him on pace for 32 touchdowns on the season, small sample size be damned. He will need to pick up the pace in yardage as the 111 yards he had is 14 less than the 125 he’ll need to average to get to 2,000.
Dynasty Impact: It’s not as if this tweet changes what we thought about Hopkins. He was already DLF’s top-ranked receiver. But after the roller coaster that was Antonio Brown’s weekend, tweets like this are a good reminder of how nice (and easy) it is to be a Hopkins dynasty owner. And if you aren’t, you should be. He’s got a good young quarterback and has been about as consistent as it gets.
And the first rookie quarterback under center is…
So Jacksonville's Gardner Minshew is the first quarterback in the 2019 Draft class to take a snap.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) September 8, 2019
I don’t know what the odds, if any, were that sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew would be the first quarterback to enter a game in 2019 but I bet they were high. That’s exactly what happened, however, as Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles went down early with an injury which led Jacksonville to throw Minshew into the fire. And, to the surprise of literally everyone, Minshew held his own in completing 22 of 25 passes for 275 yards for two touchdowns and one interception.
Dynasty Impact: One game does not suddenly boost Minshew’s dynasty standing although it doesn’t hurt. He came into the game as DLF’s ninth-ranked rookie quarterback and could easily end up in the top four if he keeps this up. More importantly, he made three Jaguars receivers relevant, throwing touchdowns to both Chris Conley and Dede Westbrook and throwing over 100 yards to DJ Chark. All three’s stocks were pointing up heading into this season with Nick Foles at quarterback but, luckily, it doesn’t appear his injury will alter their trajectory.
