Dynasty Fantasy Football Trading Post: Michael Penix

There is a saying: “You have to bet big to win big.” But the truth is you don’t always have to win big. It would stand to reason that you don’t always need to bet big, and that is absolutely true. The goal of the off-season is to increase the value of your dynasty roster. Not every move needs to take you from zero to hero. There are some moves that have a small risk and have the ability to give you a nice value bump if it goes right and not too much of a hit if things don’t go according to plan. I think a great example of this is…
Michael Penix, QB ATL
We got to see two starting games from Penix in his rookie season and they were… okay. The important part is that the Falcons have made it very clear that Penix is their starter and Kirk Cousins is his backup. Stability creates dynasty value at the quarterback position. Also, through every move they have made, the Falcons have shown that they intend to compete. These are all very good signs for a starting quarterback. Add in having more than capable pass catchers (yes, I still believe in Kyle Pitts) and you have the makings of a player who has the opportunity to increase his dynasty value with a few competent games. Let’s take a look at the DLF Trade Finder and Trade Analyzer to see what it looks like to acquire this stable quarterback.
12 team superflex PPR TE premium start 10.
There are a lot of variations of this deal in the Trade Finder. Sometimes there are extra picks involved and sometimes it is a late 2025 first instead of a random 26 first-round pick. These are the kinds of moves I would make to acquire Penix and take the chance that he is going to outplay the two games he started last season and improve his value.
12 team superflex PPR start 9.
Man I wish that was a 2026 first, then I would like this deal so much more, but I still like this kind of move for a rebuilding team – moving off of a 28-year-old running back into a value-insulated, young quarterback and grabbing some future draft capital. This is a beautiful move to kickstart a rebuild. This is also a really nice move if you drafted Penix with a leisure pick on your competing team and now want to push yourself over the edge for the championship next season.
12 team superflex PPR start 10.
This is an ageism trap. The person even gave up the better pick with Dak Prescott to shed seven years. I feel like there is a trade like this at the end of every Trading Post article when talking about moves for rebuilding. The goal of rebuilding isn’t to only get younger, it is to gain value and as you can see by the Trade Analyzer values that is not at all what is happening here. The truth is even if you were in for the long haul of a two or three-year rebuild, Prescott will still be starting and should be playing at a high level. Moving off of Prescott isn’t this much of a necessity.
Fortune favors the bold, sure, but that doesn’t mean every risk you take needs to be high stakes. Sometimes fortune favors the smart, small moves that gain you a little bit of interest. Hitting home runs looks pretty but it is the line drive singles and doubles that keep the game moving. Right now, trading for Michael Penix is a line drive to left field, where you get to jog your way to first base. Then you get to stand there and wait and see what the future brings with his value.
