Davante Adams signs with the Rams: The Dynasty Fantasy Football Impact

Ken Kelly

The Los Angeles Rams have a tendency to make a splash every now and then and they did so in a big way today as they signed free agent wide receiver Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million contract with $26 million in guaranteed money. Adams was the top receiver available after being released by the Jets and found a new home quickly. The signing is a big one in dynasty circles, so let’s take a look at the players whose values have changed as a result of the big signing.

Davante Adams, WR LAR

The former Fresno State star got his first real taste of free agency after being let go by the Jets and was rumored to want to stay on the West Coast. This landing spot fits the bill as he’s now call Los Angeles his home for the foreseeable future. Adams showed he still has a lot of juice left as he posted an 85/1,063/8 season between the Raiders and Jets last year, good for his fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign, despite sub-par quarterback play. He has been an extraordinary receiver throughout his career, posting a massive 957 career catches for 11,844 yards with 103 career touchdowns in his time with the Packers, Raiders, and Jets. He also has the ability to still dominate a game, as his nine-catch, 198-yard, two touchdown effort last year against Jacksonville showed.

Adams will now find himself playing with a very talented quarterback again as Matthew Stafford can still sling the football all over creation.  However, he may find the sledding a little tougher in LA as this will be the first time he’s clearly the WR2 on his own team as Puka Nacua is going to be the clear-cut top option in the offense. However, Adams should be able to post WR2 numbers if he remains healthy. Stafford will undoubtedly love what he can do, especially in the red zone, as he can post up defenders and is still a nightmare to cover. His long-term value could be in doubt as Stafford is playing on a year-to-year contract basis. However, dynasty managers who have Adams on their rosters are likely in “win now” mode anyway, so that’s not too much of a concern.

Puka Nacua, WR LAR

After posting a ridiculous 105/1,486/6 season as a rookie in 2023, Nacua dealt with injuries last year en route to a “disappointing” 79/990/3 campaign in 2024. However, it’s clear what kind of talent he has and it’s elite. Nacua is going to have to battle for targets a bit, but he was already used to that with Cooper Kupp around. At worst, he’s going to be the “1A” and Adams will be the “1B.” However, if you are in a league where the manager who has Nacua is somehow down on him, this would be the time to strike because you may never have a window like this again. Nacua is at the top of any dynasty receiver ranking list and frankly should be as he can be a league winner for just about any dynasty manager.

Matthew Stafford, WR LAR

Remember when Stafford showed up in Los Angeles in 2021 and threw for almost 5,000 yards and a career high 41 touchdowns? Well, having Adams and Nacua together may not result in something like that, but this is certainly a positive development for Stafford. He’s on a year-to-year basis but the Rams look like a team trying to win right now after making a late-season run in the playoffs and pushing the Eagles to the brink of elimination. Stafford is more than good enough to make at least those two receivers very relevant in dynasty leagues and he should be looked upon as a QB1 for as long as he decides to keep playing.

Cooper Kupp, WR LAR

If he didn’t have one foot out the door already, this all but seals it. The Rams are going to go with Adams and Nacua as their “Batman and Robin” and there just doesn’t seem to be any room for another superhero on the roster. Kupp is still very likely to be traded at some point this week. If they can’t find a taker, he’s likely going to be released. Stay tuned.

Tutu Atwell, WR LAR

The idea that Atwell could step in and be the WR2 for the Rams was a fun notion while it lasted. Atwell is still roster worthy, but more as a player who could emerge if Adams or Nacua miss time. As for the rest of the depth chart, it just doesn’t look like any other receiver merits much consideration in dynasty leagues. This also makes it unlikely we see Demarcus Robinson back in Los Angeles as well.

Aaron Rodgers, QB FA

Hmm. Rodgers and Adams were rumored to be some kind of package deal, but that’s clearly not going to be the case. The number of teams willing to sign Rodgers looks to be minimal and while it seems he still wants to play, it’s fair to wonder if this move by Adams could make him re-consider retiring.aaron rodgers dynasty ad
