The dynasty world can be an optical illusion, where everything is not what it appears. On the surface you can see the landscape, however looking deeper can uncover a new meaning, a different perspective. In this four-part series, I’ll be discovering the true takeaways from the dynasty world - through the contrast of overall fantasy points scored versus the fantasy points per game (FPPG) in 2024.
FPPG is key to understanding a player’s true performance. Why would we consider yearly totals when we play a weekly game? Focusing purely on the overall output misses key information such as games missed through injury, hence can skew outlook based on random events. Focusing on FPPG compares players on a level playing field, game versus game, to truly identify their fantasy effectiveness.
The final article in the series will focus on tight ends, contrasting the overall output against the weekly output from 2024 (excluding week 18). The previous article on wide receivers can be found here.
One of my favorite tight ends of this era, Njoku had another strong campaign, finishing as the TE10 overall in 2024 and an impressive TE4 in FPPG. Despite an injury-shortened season, Njoku was a TE1 on 63.6% of his 11 games and had five games as a TE5 or better. Now 28 years old, Njoku is in his prime, yet valued below younger assets like Dalton Kincaid and Tucker Kraft - both of whom have yet to get close to Njoku’s fantasy production. He is more productive without Browns’ quarterback Deshaun Watson, hence the injury setback is potentially a positive for him - while there are question marks over his quarterback in 2025. The week seven trade away of Amari Cooper led to an increased volume for Njoku, however the likelihood of significant competition seems unlikely and more applicable to his teammate Jerry Jeudy.
