Dynasty Injury Impact: Week Nine
It was a bad week for wide receivers as multiple suffered season-ending injuries. All in all, it wasn’t a bad week for injuries. We have officially entered the part of the season where we should all be praying to the fantasy gods for no injuries to our players as we make pushes for championships. Good luck to all.
PSA: When I list a player in the “notable, but less significant” it can be for one of two things. Either the injury is insignificant or the player is. Can I say that?
All info contained in this article is from the great Matthew Betz, follow him @TheFantasyPT. He’s an orthopedic physical therapist and does injury analysis for The Fantasy Footballers. So, he is a great resource to follow for injury updates.
Quarterbacks
Jacoby Brissett, IND
Injury: MCL sprain
Timeframe: Week to week
What initially looked like it could have been a serious injury turned out to be a mild one as MRIs on Monday came back negative for additional ankle damage. This means that while Brissett will be out for a couple of weeks, he will be able to return although he will need to wear a knee brace.
Running Backs
Le’Veon Bell, NYJ
Injury: Unknown knee injury
Timeframe: Day to day
We have not been updated as to what exactly happened with Bell’s knee. He did receive an MRI on Monday, but the details have not been disclosed as of the writing of this article. People started freaking out when the Jets called up Josh Adams from the practice squad, but according to Adam Schefter, it’s not because Bell’s injury is serious. Keep an eye on any other developments.
Wide Receivers
DeSean Jackson, PHI
Injury: Abdominal/groin injury
Timeframe: IR (out for season)
After initially refusing surgery to repair a sports hernia that he suffered back in week two, DeSean Jackson finds himself on IR after reaggravating his sports hernia during his return. His season is now over and his utility in fantasy football is all but zero.
Adam Thielen, MIN
Injury: Hamstring strain
Timeframe: Multiple weeks
Another reaggravated injury for a WR. Maybe there’s a lesson here about the importance of not rushing back from injuries and just letting the body fully heal. At least Thielen’s came from a great touchdown catch. Unfortunately, this means he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks. As we have learned from players like Dalvin Cook or Leonard Fournette, these injuries can linger and hamper production.
Preston Williams, MIA
Injury: Torn ACL
Timeframe: IR (out for season)
One of my model’s sleepers out of the 2019 class, Preston Williams was on the same trajectory as other sleeper wide receivers from years past (i.e. Stefon Diggs, Antonio Brown, Adam Thielen, and Brandon Marshall). Unfortunately, his season is over after tearing his ACL and he likely won’t be 100% for week one in 2020.
Parris Campbell, IND
Injury: Wrist fracture
Timeframe: Four-to-eight weeks
What a rough rookie year for Parris Campbell. He just can’t stay healthy as he now fractured his wrist. The timeframe for recovery is wide because as Matthew Betz says, it “depends on… the bone that was broken, the type of fracture, and how his healing process/recovery goes”.
Other notable injuries, although less significant for fantasy: Alshon Jeffrey (Ankle sprain)
