Off-Season Mock Drafts: Single QB Start-Up Results

John DiBari

Looking back at my series of off-season mock drafts, it appears that I have neglected single quarterback start-up drafts. Whelp, consider them forgotten no more! Armed with the most recent ADP date from June, I wanted to look at the results of the six mock drafts conducted by DLF and break down the results. Despite living in what seems to be a full-blown superflex world, I’m old school and still prefer 1QB leagues, so let’s take a look at how things are shaking out in the most recent mocks.

Rounds 1-4

Jefferson, Chase, and Lamb never fell out of the top three picks in any of the June mocks, and they were each selected first overall at least once. I can’t argue with it, but I have some concerns with all of them. Is McCarthy going to be good enough to keep Jefferson locked in as the WR1? Is Burrow going to be the same Burrow we’ve been accustomed to following his wrist surgery, and how will opposing defenses shift their coverage against the Bengals when Tee Higgins is no longer on the team? Do the Cowboys extend Dak Prescott? If they were going to, why isn’t a deal already done? I can’t comfortably put anyone ahead of them, but they’re not without their warts- which is a scary thought for the first three picks in dynasty drafts. I think the safest picks are probably CMC and Hall- one of them is 28, and the other is coming off of an ACL tear on a team that just drafted two more running backs—scary stuff.

The second round isn’t less scary. Tyreek Hill is 30, and retirement is on the horizon, but for a single season, he feels as safe as it comes. I love LaPorta in this spot, but that’s about it. We’ve got a couple of rookies (which always terrify me in start-up drafts), the disappointing Drake London, and Brandon Aiyuk, who nobody knows where he’ll be playing next season. I like Waddle, Olave, and Collins- just not at this price. However, who else can you take here and not be considered a massive overreach?
