Shane Hallam

Welcome to the Cornerstone Report where we will check in on the young players in football (2024 eligible, rookies, and second year) each week! As the hottest commodities in dynasty and devy, these players can make or break your teams in the future. Here are some of the top headlines and reports for the future of the league.

TreVeyon Henderson, RB Ohio State lights up the scoreboard in return

After missing three weeks with injuries, Henderson returned for the Buckeyes against the Wisconsin Badgers. He looked 100% healthy with his full slate of speed and quickness. Rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown along with four receptions for 45 yards, he staked his claim to be RB1 in the 2024 class. Though the injury concerns will remain, the talent is undeniable.

Trey Benson, RB Florida State flashes pass-catching prowess

Benson was pegged as a potential breakout candidate this season. Despite Florida State’s undefeated season, it just has not happened. In a tune-up game against Wake Forest, Benson ran for 65 yards and a touchdown, but he was heavily used in the passing game with 100 yards and a touchdown to boot. This may end up being Benson’s role in the NFL and if he is drafted early enough to a pass-heavy team, the pro future could be bright.

Jahmyr Gibbs, RB DET dominates on Monday Night Football

Gibbs was the talk of the fantasy world when he netted 182 total yards with a touchdown against the Raiders. Even with Craig Reynolds siphoning off carries, Gibbs was dominant in his performance. He looked like a top NFL Draft pick. Though questions remain about David Montgomery and his usage when he returns from injury, Gibbs has established himself as a top fantasy weapon moving forward.

Dalton Kincaid, TE BUF targeted often in slot role

When Dawson Knox going down with a wrist injury, the door was open for first-round pick Kincaid to take control of the position for the Bills. He made it happen on Thursday Night Football with five receptions on seven targets for 65 yards and a touchdown. Though he split time with Khalil Shakir, Kincaid flashed the consistent ability that he was drafted for. Good things should continue.

Trey McBride, TE ARI makes the most of his opportunity

Another tight end who benefitted from an injury in front of him, McBride was a top target with Zach Ertz out. The top TE taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, McBride had 10 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. With a great sense of spacing and running tough after the catch, McBride may have earned himself more playing time and targets going forward.

Jahan Dotson, WR WAS rises from the dead

One of the biggest disappointments of the fantasy season has been Dotson’s lack of production. With a goose egg two weeks ago, things looked bleak. But, a breakout performance for the Commanders offense against the Eagles brought 10 targets to Dotson who caught eight passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. This could put Dotson on the other side to begin living up to his value.
