Lineup Advice: Week 12 – Thanksgiving Edition

Bye: None

Thanksgiving

Despite the hustle and bustle that takes place leading up to Thanksgiving, it’s hard not to love this time of season.

I’ve always seen, and I know I’m not alone, Thanksgiving as the gateway to a long holiday season cycle that extends into January. Family gatherings, great food, Christmas decorations, Christmas music and, hopefully, a lot of good cheer and holiday spirit ending by rolling into a new year with new opportunities. I love it.

This is a time for giving and giving back, remembering where we came from, being thankful for those in our lives and not taking anything for granted. In fact, as a widower who lost my wife when she was 33 back in 2001, I strongly urge each of you to let your loved ones how much they mean to you and how much better your life is because they are in it. Taking people and things in your life for granted is a very human thing to do, but I’m here to tell you how important it is to fight that practice. It wasn’t until after my wife was gone that I truly realized how special, how gifted, she was in many facets of life that I simply took for granted. I promised myself that through her loss, I would learn that lesson and be an even better father, spouse and man for the rest of my days.

That all said, I still often forget and still take things for granted. The take-away here is that perfection is not the goal, progress is! Give yourself grace, laugh at your mistakes and misgivings all the while striving to be better in the future.

Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy and prosperous holiday season.

Week 12

No bye weeks this week so live it up my dynasty degenerates. I don’t have much to offer you this week so I’ll simply say …

…..good luck in week 12!

Team Tracking

Worst week of the year as it turns out as my teams went 6-8. A couple of bad beats, specifically in my high(er) stakes league where I lost by just over a point, especially painful in that Devonta Smith was one year away from scoring the touchdown which would have notched the victory, and that dropped pass by MVS likely cost me another game or two. But, that’s fantasy!

In my primary league, I even lost to the last place team though my team hasn’t knocked it out of the park this year. Truth be told, I’m kind of not wanting to make the playoffs so I’ll have a better draft position. This is the league where I don’t worry about winning titles and, instead, focus on assembling my favorite players and draft picks, since that is the most fun aspect of dynasty for me. Having one league to focus on has changed my entire dynasty experience.

In total, my record stands at 87-67. I don’t love it but it’s been such an odd year. In one of my top leagues, I’m now down to Dorian Thompson-Robinson as my primary quarterback. If I win it all with him at the helm, I’ll be more than surprised.

Let’s get to the advice!

Lineup Advice Rules & Format

DLF continues to see growth in our membership and each year I continue to wonder how I’m going to keep up with all of your questions while also holding to a level of service and quality you’ve all come to expect from me. I’ve been VERY happy with my level of accuracy but, for that to occur, I need your help. Each question can take up to 10 minutes for me to research as I research up to a dozen different variables and trends. I do everything I can to get my answers correct. For that reason, I need you to read the following rules and guidelines to help me maintain efficiency:

  • Please don’t ask me to set your entire lineup
  • Put “TNF” as the top line for any question involving Thursday Night Football games
  • Please also make sure to tell me who YOU would be starting if not for my advice. It helps me to understand your gut feeling(s).
  • Include your scoring format  (PPR, Non-PPR, etc.)
  • Keep your questions as brief as possible – Story questions add a lot of time
  • I prioritize questions involving the earliest (Thursday, etc.) games first. If I skip over your question, don’t worry, I’ll be back to it.
  • It’s easy to miss responses to my responses in thread. When in doubt, always post a separate new question

Lastly, I work very hard to get my advice correct and I do not mail it in. When I’m wrong, I feel every incorrect answer so, go easy on me! That said, the DLF community has been absolutely fantastic to work with which is why I’m still doing this after so many years.

Have a great week! Have an even better season!
