Five in Five: Week Six Dynasty Storylines
Over the years, we’ve done several different weekly preview articles and love to give new things a try. This is the time of year when it’s nearly information overload with every nook and cranny of the internet flooded with all kinds of fantasy football opinions and advice. Instead of following the herd and doing the same thing you’re used to, we’re going a little off the wall this year with our “Five in Five.” This is a weekly written preview of the five biggest storylines of the week encompassed in a five-section theme and in the way I love to do it – weird. It will also be a bit of a preview for my weekly Dynasty Aftermath – the longest running dynasty series in the business as we hit year #17 in 2023 as we bring you five possible storylines we could see on Monday Morning.
Birds of Prey
Bijan Robinson and the Atlanta offense was supposed to offer a haven for fantasy performance this year and while the Falcons are somehow 3-2, this team has not lived up to expectations from a fantasy perspective. In fact, look at the rankings so far for their key fantasy players:
Desmond Ridder = QB21
Bijan Robinson = RB12
Drake London = WR48
Kyle Pitts = TE17
In a word, that’s awful. Ridder hasn’t seemingly grown enough as a passer to maintain the values of Pitts and London, who have been massive disappointments in their own right. Meanwhile, Robinson has had his moments but isn’t getting enough touches on a weekly basis to really make good on his potential. A home game against the Commanders this week will go a long way in telling us just what to expect from this group moving forward.
They’re Grrrreeeat?
What a year it’s been for those crazy Bengal tigers! After a month of total and absolute futility, Cincinnati erupted for 34 points last week against the Cardinals. Even better, Joe Burrow hit Ja’Marr Chase for three touchdown passes, Chase’s first three of the season. Burrow himself has had three different games without a touchdown pass and five in the other two. The upstart Seahawks come to town this week. Can Burrow, Chase and the rest of this offense build on what we saw last week against another NFC West opponent? This is a monster game in fantasy circles as countless dynasty teams are built around players on this Bengals offense. The last time we saw Seattle, they were sacking everyone so this should be a good test.
Raheem Must Start
De’Von Achane has been unbelievable this season, averaging better than 12 yards per carry and vaulting up the dynasty rankings. Unfortunately, a knee injury has put him on short-term IR and handed the reigns back over to Raheem Mostert. Will the Dolphins use Mostert in a rotation or truly unleash him. If he gets the majority of the work in this offense, he has a chance to be a high-end RB1 for the better part of the next month, a crucial one in fantasy leagues as we hit the heart of the bye weeks. We’ve seen Mostert be great in spurts and if he can stay healthy in October, we could be primed for another one and it could start on Sunday.
Colt Revolver
The Colts paid Jonathan Taylor his money and got him some work last week. However, it was Zack Moss who again stole the show against Tennessee. With 165 rushing yards and two more touchdowns, Moss is currently the RB5 on the season. Can Indianapolis really keep him off the field at this point or are they going to make this a revolving door at the position? Reports are hot and heavy indicating Taylor will start to get back to his normal workload here this week but this is a backfield dynasty managers are very interested in at the moment. This week should start to show us just how far the Colts are willing to push this. Will the split be 80/20? 70/30? 60/40? Depending on what we see, Moss could be anywhere from a RB3 to a must-bench player the rest of the way. In addition, if the Colts use Moss as more than just a change-of-pace back, Taylor’s grip on an RB1 status is going to be in serious jeopardy.
Boston Massacre
The Patriots are really bad. Like really bad. With Mac Jones struggling and the offense looking completely anemic, every Patriots player is firmly on fantasy benches and that includes Rhamondre Stevenson, who is averaging just 9.10 fantasy points on the season and has seen his production go down in every week the past month. At this point, you have to expect to see Bailey Zappe, Malik Cunningham or Will Grier at the helm of this team if they struggle for more than a half this week. Someone has to give a spark to this team or New England will just be wiped off the fantasy map for the entire season.
