Dynasty Injury Report: Week Three

Bruce Matson

Thankfully, the injury report for week three isn’t near as devastating compared to the injury report that was posted for week two. There are still a lot of injuries that we need to monitor from the previous week. Some of these injuries will create buying opportunities in a lot of fantasy leagues. We will also need to observe some of these players’ injuries throughout the week to see if they will be able to return to the field.

QUARTERBACK

Outside of Mitchell Trubisky’s spirit after he got benched, there were no injuries to report from week three’s games.

RUNNING BACK

Chris Carson, SEA

The injury was hard to watch. It looked very serious. After getting an MRI on Monday morning it was later revealed that there was no structural damage and he only suffered a minor knee sprain. There’s a chance he could be back for this week’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Fantasy gamers should sit back and breathe a sigh of relief and monitor his status for week four.

Tarik Cohen, CHI

After signing a three-year $17.25 million extension just a week ago, Cohen’s season is over. He tore his ACL in his week three contest against the Atlanta Falcons. More than likely his fantasy owners haven’t been too dependent on him since he was the RB48 in PRR leagues in his first two games of the season.

Going forward we should expect to see David Montgomery used more in the passing game. His overall floor will be elevated by the additional targets. With Nick Foles now under center, his fantasy value seems a lot more appealing.

WIDE RECEIVER

DeSean Jackson, PHI

Jackson is considered day to day with a hamstring injury that he endured during Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. There’s a chance he could be back on the field as early as this week.

Diontae Johnson, PIT

Johnson exited his week three contest with a concussion. Once he clears the concussion protocol, he will be back on the field for the Steelers. This shouldn’t be deemed as a long-term injury. Johnson will be back on the field sooner than later. The injury won’t affect his dynasty value.

Bryan Edwards, LV

Edwards suffered an ankle injury. He has been seen around the facility in a walking book. His availability for week four is now in question. We don’t know how long the injury will impact his ability to play, but it’s a definite blow to the rookie’s 2020 season. Considering he has only caught five passes for 99 yards in three games, the injury will most likely make him a discounted asset in dynasty.

Michael Pittman Jr., IND

Pittman had compartment leg syndrome in his calf. The is expecting him to be back in the lineup around week eight. He’s a young wide receiver who has the talent to develop into a key staple in the Colts’ offense. With him being on the shelf for a while, it might lower his stock just enough that he becomes a buy-low in dynasty. When a player is not on the field, they become out of sight and out of mind to many dynasty managers. This will eventually cause the player to drop in value.

Chris Godwin, TB

Godwin injured his hamstring in the third quarter against the Denver Broncos. After getting his MRI on Monday, it appears he will be out of the lineup for at least a few weeks. The injury should not affect his dynasty value since we are anticipating him to be back on the field this year. If anything, it could generate a buying opportunity if his dynasty manager is on tilt.

Mike Williams, LAC

The veteran wide receiver suffered a hamstring injury in week three against the Carolina Panthers which caused him to leave the game early. His status is unclear for week four against Tampa Bay. We will need to monitor his progress throughout the week to see whether he will be able to suit up and play.

Russell Gage, ATL

Gage left his week four contest against the Chicago Bears with a concussion. If he can clear concussion protocol, then he will be on the field this week against the Green Bay Packers.

Hopefully, he can get back on the field soon. Gage has established a role within the passing offense, catching 15 passes for 160 yards in the first two weeks of the season.

John Brown, BUF

He left Sunday’s game with a calf injury. If he is out of commission for multiple weeks, then Gabriel Davis will be a player to monitor. He might be sitting on the waiver wire, making him free to pick up. The added playing time could be enough for Davis to flash some of his talents.

TIGHT END

Dallas Goedert, PHI

The Eagles sent Dallas Goedert to the injured reserve. He has a small fracture on his ankle. He is expected to miss some time. Since he’s going to be out of lineups for a large portion of the season, it might be a good idea to see if it’s possible to pry him away from his dynasty manager for a discount. The fact that he’s currently out of commission and is playing one of the less lucrative positions in fantasy could lead to you receiving a tremendous value off the trade market.

Jordan Reed, SF

After subbing for the injured George Kittle, Reed managed to injure himself twice on Sunday. An ankle injury caused him to leave the game momentarily. Then after coming back, he left the game again with a knee sprain. The injury could keep him out of the lineup for six to eight weeks.

Fantasy managers are already accustomed to Reed being in an out of the lineup with injuries. This is just part of the course when rostering him in fantasy. His injury history is obviously baked into his price tag.
