DLF’s Weekly Impact Events
As the off-season really gets going it’s more important than ever to keep up with the news. You have to pay close attention to everything to stay on top of your dynasty league. For most of us, we do well to steal some time away from our families and jobs to watch the games on Sunday. It becomes difficult to monitor the daily happenings around the league and even more demanding to process how that news affects your dynasty team.

Brandon Pettigrew, TE DET
A local report out of Detroit says the Lions could be ready to give up on tight end Brandon Pettigrew. The former starter suffered a torn ACL that ended his season early. I have to admit. There were times I watched the Lions this year and caught glimpses of Pettigrew. I had forgotten he was even still on the roster. Cutting ties with Pettigrew would save the team some money and open up even more snaps for talented former first rounder Eric Ebron. Pettigrew is obviously not worth a roster spot, while Ebron could see his dynasty value rise this off-season.
Jimmy Graham, TE SEA
According to Seattle general manager John Schneider, tight end Jimmy Graham will be back with the team in 2016. Following a disappointing first season and a horrific knee injury, there had been some growing speculation that the team may just cut ties with Graham. According to Schneider though, that’s not the case. I’m not ready to lock in anything I read or hear in January as fact and I’m not sure a new team wouldn’t be the best option for Graham anyway. With that knee injury and entering his 30-year-old season, the bottom has fallen out of Graham’s dynasty value. He wasn’t even among the top 12 drafted tight ends in our January mock drafts.
Marshawn Lynch, RB SEA
[inlinead]Schneider also commented on his veteran running back, Marshawn Lynch, saying that Lynch is leaning towards retirement. We’ve heard other reports saying the same thing all season long. Whether Lynch is back or not, he has obviously played his last snap in Seattle, who seems ready to move forward with Thomas Rawls as their 2016 starter. If he wants to keep playing, Lynch would have some suitors, even after an injury-plagued season. Until he makes his official decision, his dynasty value is in limbo. You can’t sell him and I wouldn’t buy him for anything more than a mid third round pick.
Jamaal Charles, RB KC
We got some good news on injured Chiefs’ running back Jamaal Charles this week, as Kansas City general manager John Dorsey mentioned Charles being ahead of schedule in his ACL recovery. As with most injuries, there had been little news since Charles underwent surgery, but based on this, it’s fair to assume Charles will back to full strength as the starter in Kansas City. Following that injury, Charles is being undervalued in dynasty leagues. He’s an excellent target for contending teams.
Davante Adams, WR GB
Beat writers out of Green Bay have opined that disappointing wideout Davante Adams might be on the roster bubble for 2016. First of all, this seems way too early to be making such declarations, even after Adams struggled with drops for much of the season. Either way, teams rarely give up on such high draft picks this early and while Adams has struggled, he’s also shown some flashes of being a solid contributor. With Jordy Nelson expected back and Randall Cobb expected to occupy his familiar role as the second receiver, Adams will battle for the third receiver’s role.
Eric Rogers, WR SF
The San Francisco 49ers signed former CFL receiver Eric Rogers. He couldn’t make the Cowboys following his college career, but played well in the CFL, with nearly 1,500 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns last season. With the 49ers lacking playmakers on offense, Rogers is worth stashing is dynasty leagues, but could easily be the next Duron Carter.
Josh Gordon, WR CLE
Browns’ receiver Josh Gordon, who was suspended for the entire 2015 season, applied for reinstatement to the league this week. The Gordon hype was already beginning to grow, but will really kick into high gear with this report. Gordon has been drafted in the third round of recent startup drafts. Gordon is a special case and each individual dynasty owner must decide how they value Gordon, who has equal parts risk and upside.
Jeff Janis, WR GB
One of the big stories coming out of last week’s divisional round of games was the big numbers posted by backup receiver Jeff Janis, who caught the game tying hail mary touchdown to end regulation. Janis posted a 7/145/2 stat line thanks to some increased playing time. Davante Adams was unable to play and Randall Cobb suffered a chest injury early in the game. Aaron Rodgers had little choice but to target Janis often and it paid off. Head coach Mike McCarthy has since mentioned a likely increase in playing time for Janis, but with Nelson and Cobb locked into starting roles and Adams, Jared Abbrederis and Ty Montgomery also competing for snaps, it won’t be easy to get Janis more snaps.
James Starks, RB GB
Veteran James Starks, when asked about his future, shared his desire to find a starting role. Starks is entering free agency and after he proved to be the Packers’ best runner this season, you can’t blame him for wanting a more permanent gig. The Packers face a tough call with the disappointing Eddie Lacy under contract and Starks looking for a stable job. Both Starks and Lacy can be considered solid buys this off-season.
Johnny Manziel, QB CLE
With the hire of former Bengals’ offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, there is every expectation the Browns will release troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel this off-season. Manziel’s off-field issues are well-documented and his on-field achievements as a professional are limited. The Browns’ brass were reportedly drawn to Jackson based on his insistence he would part ways with Manziel. I’m not sure if Manziel even gets another chance in the league.
