Lineup Advice: Week 11 – Playoff Push Edition

Jeff Haverlack

Bye: Falcons, Colts, Patriots, Saints

Week 1

Another interesting week in the NFL with a pair of prime time games that, at the time of scheduling probably seemed like a good idea, but when they arrived ended up being real stinkers.  Last Thursday it was the Panthers at the Bears – Insert puke emoji here. On Sunday night it was the Jets at the Raiders – Insert skull and crossbones emoji. Monday night featured the Broncos and the Bills, and prior to the game I was readying a sleeping emoji but, as it turned out, it was a great game.

Overall, it was a relatively lackluster week without a lot of noteworthy events. Mac Jones will be riding the pine going forward – no surprise there and it was a long time in coming. Noah Brown has erupted into what appears to be a WR1 though color me skeptical. That said, I’ve liked Brown’s game for a couple of years now and it’s not that surprising. I’d be more inclined to be a seller than a buyer, however, if you can can get a good price. The Joshua Dobbs magic show continues to be some of the best magic we’ve seen yet. Kyler Murray is back under center and looking to make it tough for the Cardinals to move on from him following 2023.  The Giants are really bad, the Bills are struggling and, all the while, the Lions, Browns and maybe even the Texans are pretty good – What the hell is going on here?!

We’re now into the final stretch to the fantasy playoffs, that went fast! No doubt that trade deadlines are closing in so you’ll have to make decisions soon. This is the time to start maximizing the value of those aging veterans if you’ve committed to a rebuild. If you’re a solid contender, it’s also the time to start moving those late-round picks for veteran names to help you down the stretch, or, underperforming names who are experiencing acute production issues, but whose prospects should improve in 2024.

Most of all, as we progress through the season, we start our best teams to ensure we maintain league integrity. We don’t bench our studs, sandbag our starting lineups or, in any other way, tank our season. If you want to do that, you trade away your assets so they are off your roster and not in your lineup.

Good luck in week 11!

Team Tracking

I didn’t expect a lot from week 10 but it turned out pretty well. I was even bailed out of a bad goof in one of my RTS leagues where I forgot to submit my lineup changes for the week, thus starting two inactive players. Somehow, I still got the win (by nine points). I’ll chalk that up to the Vegas hangover.

On the week, I was 10-4. Somehow, one of my 2022 championship teams which has been decimated by injury continues to win. I can’t figure it out other than via pure luck. My top team is 9-1 and is a monster while my worst team is now 2-8 and decimated by injury. Looking forward to the draft already and still trying to acquire one more first round selection, though nothing has panned out thus far.

In total, my record stands at 81-59 and is improving over what I saw in the first half of the season. When looking at my teams, I’m still seeing mostly a lot of mediocrity and my assessment is that my overall record is better than my team’s performance, but I’m getting healthier in a few key spots. I’m only out of the playoffs in two of the 14 leagues, one of those being a complete rebuild starting with Anthony Richardson (IR) and Bijan Robinson. I need at least one more year with this team.

Let’s get to the advice!

Lineup Advice Rules & Format

DLF continues to see growth in our membership and each year I continue to wonder how I’m going to keep up with all of your questions while also holding to a level of service and quality you’ve all come to expect from me. I’ve been VERY happy with my level of accuracy but, for that to occur, I need your help. Each question can take up to 10 minutes for me to research as I research up to a dozen different variables and trends. I do everything I can to get my answers correct. For that reason, I need you to read the following rules and guidelines to help me maintain efficiency:

  • Please don’t ask me to set your entire lineup
  • Put “TNF” as the top line for any question involving Thursday Night Football games
  • Please also make sure to tell me who YOU would be starting if not for my advice. It helps me to understand your gut feeling(s).
  • Include your scoring format  (PPR, Non-PPR, etc.)
  • Keep your questions as brief as possible – Story questions add a lot of time
  • I prioritize questions involving the earliest (Thursday, etc.) games first. If I skip over your question, don’t worry, I’ll be back to it.
  • It’s easy to miss responses to my responses in thread. When in doubt, always post a separate new question

Lastly, I work very hard to get my advice correct and I do not mail it in. When I’m wrong, I feel every incorrect answer so, go easy on me! That said, the DLF community has been absolutely fantastic to work with which is why I’m still doing this after so many years.

Have a great week! Have an even better season!
