20/20 Interview with Jordan Richards

Ken Kelly

This week, destination devy designer and DLF contributor, Jordan Richards sat down with us for a few. Enjoy!

Where are you from?

I live in a town about half an hour outside of Toronto, Ontario.

What do you do for your regular job?

I am a freelance photographer and videographer

What is the worst job you have ever had?

I was a science major and I did some chemical testing for a company that imported essential oils a little after I finished university. One of the strangest work environments ever. The CEO was a maniac and read everyone’s emails. He watched us all on the cameras too, it was really weird. Would highly recommend looking up “New Directions Aromatics” on Glassdoor and reading the reviews. They are all true, and none are exaggerated.

What is the best job you have ever had?

What I am doing right now. I have turned my passion for photography and videography into a small business and it’s easily been the best job I have ever had and may ever have.

What do you consider your dream job?

Exactly what I am doing right now, just more high profile.

How long have you been in the industry?

I believe this will be my fourth off-season, which is kind of crazy to look back on because it doesn’t feel that long at all.

How did you get your break into fantasy football?

I watched the CFBP semi-final back in 2018, Georgia and Oklahoma. Sony Michel went off for 221 yards and four touchdowns, and I had thought about writing for a while. So I decided to write that I thought he could be a better prospect than Nick Chubb (Yikes!) and submitted it to Rich over at Dynasty Nerds and he liked it enough that he wanted me to write more and that’s how I got started.

What tool do you use the most on DLF?

I use the ADP more than anything. I like to look at the trade analyzer and the recent trades as well for reference when trying to orchestrate deals with other fantasy owners. It can help to find gaps between consensus and my own beliefs to take advantage of.

What tool do you use the most outside of DLF?

I use the NFL splits tool at FTN quite a bit for looking at matchups and looking for potential values when situations change.

Who was the best sleeper you pegged that broke out?

Recently, it has to be Terry McLaurin. I was all over him pre-draft and to break out in his first game felt extremely validating and now he’s basically a top 10 dynasty asset after being a borderline 2nd round pick in rookie drafts.

Who was your biggest whiff?

Had to be Sony Michel, I chose to ignore many of the warning signs. I just loved the talent in college, even if it may have been short-lived in the NFL I wanted to see him succeed really badly.

What is the worst trade you have made?

The worst is actually quite recent. Last offseason I traded a 2021 1st for a 2020 1.12 to draft Jalen Reagor. I was rebuilding but thought that was good value for Reagor, despite being in a 2QB league and having no quarterbacks, I wanted to build out my skill positions. That pick ended up being the 1.01. So I could have had that pick 1.01, and my own 1.02 to take Lawrence and Fields. I currently have Haskins and PJ Walker starting, so that would have been a big upgrade.

Who is your favorite underfollowed Twitter account?

@FTFantasy_Gad – Gadiel
@FTFantasy_Tyler – Tyler

Two smart guys who have their own podcast but people don’t really know about. Mostly redraft focused but they do some good stuff.

Who is your favorite NFL team?

The New England Patriots

Who is your favorite college football team?

Florida Gators

Who was your favorite player growing up?

Percy Harvin

Who is your favorite player of all time?

What other hobbies or passions do you have outside of fantasy football?

Lots of Photo/Video work, both professionally and just for fun. Podcasting from time to time.

What are some of your favorite movies?

District 9 is one of my all-time favorites. Goodfellas, The Dark Knight is also up there.

Who are some of your favorite artists?

6lack is my favorite. You could throw in J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, Big Sean are all up there as well.
