Devy Roundup: Week 14

Kyle Holden

It was reported last Thursday Oklahoma tight end Grant Calcaterra retired from football due to numerous concussions. He was inside the top-five of many devy tight end rankings so it is a blow to the position for fantasy purposes. However, his health and well-being are of more importance so I wanted to open this week’s edition wishing him the best going forward.

With the regular season coming to a close this week and conference championships beginning next week, this will be the last edition of my Devy Roundup for the year. I hope you have enjoyed it and learned a thing or two along the way.

Whether you play in college fantasy leagues, want more information on devy players, or are just a fan of college football in general, there is always so much to learn. It is one of the many things that makes college football so great. Thanks again for following along and good luck in all your leagues!

Top performers

Below are some of the top performers of the week. Of course, I could not list everyone who played well, but here are a few who stood out. You can find the full set of statistics from the week here.

JK Dobbins, RB Ohio State (157 yards rushing, 2 TDs, 1 rec, 11 yards)

I did not like what I saw from Dobbins last year as much as others did, but he has looked so much more explosive this year. The increased workload compared to a season ago has not slowed him down at all and he actually looks better with the additional carries. He handled 36 of them on Saturday.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire, RB LSU (188 yards rushing, 3 TDs, 7 rec, 65 yards)

Edwards-Helaire did whatever he wanted to on the football field on Saturday. He turned just six carries into 188 yards as he showcased great speed and agility for someone his size.

Kedon Slovis, QB USC (515 yards passing, 4 TDs)

Slovis might be the real deal. He continues to put up monster numbers as four of his receivers eclipsed 100 yards on Saturday. UCLA’s defense is not good, but those are still ridiculous numbers.

Jonathan Taylor, RB Wisconsin (222 yards rushing, 1 TD)

Taylor’s big game on Saturday was his third 200-yard rushing game in a row. His consistent, elite production continues to amaze me as there is not much separating him and D’Andre Swift atop my devy rankings. Debating which one is better is a moot point. Give me as many shares of each as I can get.

Zack Moss, RB Utah (203 yards rushing, 1 TD, 4 rec, 32 yards)

Moss and the rest of the Utes dominated Arizona on Saturday. He was a trendy name among the devy community this time last year but lost some luster once he injured his knee and returned for his senior season. However, he could still be a valuable sleeper pick in the later rounds of rookie drafts next year.

Johnny Johnson, WR Oregon (10 rec, 207 yards, 2 TDs)

Oregon saw their playoff hopes erased with a loss to Arizona State on Saturday. While it was a crushing blow to their season, wide receiver Johnny Johnson had a big game, catching ten passes for over 200 yards.

Brycen Hopkins, TE Purdue (8 rec, 127 yards, 2 TDs)

Hopkins continues to be one of the most productive tight ends in the country this year. The senior has improved his reception and yardage totals every year and continues to climb my rankings.

MARQUEE MATCHUPS

Below are some of the games I will be sure to tune into for this upcoming week’s slate. You can check out the full week fourteen schedule here.

#2 Ohio State @ #13 Michigan – 11/30 @ 12 PM EST on FOX

Can anybody keep up with Ohio State? Nobody has been able to so far as they look destined for a playoff spot. Justin Fields and JK Dobbins have looked like the best quarterback-running back duo in the country this year.

#5 Alabama @ #15 Auburn – 11/30 @ 3:30 PM EST on CBS

Alabama might need some help from other teams to get into the playoffs this year, but they first need to take care of Auburn on the road. Bo Nix is a true freshman quarterback who is not afraid of the big stage and he poses a real threat to Alabama. I want to see how Auburn wide receiver Seth Williams matches up against the Alabama secondary.

#12 Wisconsin @ #10 Minnesota – 11/30 @ 3:30 PM EST on ABC

Some of my favorite devy players will be featured in this one. Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor looks to help the Badgers knock off the Gophers on the road while Minnesota wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Tyler Johnson look to build off their recent string of good games over the last month.

#9 Oklahoma @ #21 Oklahoma State – 11/30 @ 8 PM EST on FOX

This edition of the “Battle of Bedlam” should be another dandy. Jalen Hurts and CeeDee Lamb can put up points in a hurry. With quarterback Spencer Sanders and wide receiver Tylan Wallace out for the season with injuries, running back Chuba Hubbard will need to have a big game Saturday to keep Oklahoma State close.
