Top Ten Dynasty Fantasy Football QB Rankings

Brian Malone

The team of rankers at Dynasty League Football bring you the best dynasty fantasy football rankings every day of the year. Those rankings include a Top 200 overall list of dynasty rankings, but we also provide deep positional rankings for each of the key positions. Here we will provide a quick overview of the consensus top ten dynasty fantasy football QB rankings. You can view the complete list of our composite dynasty quarterback rankings for a more detailed and lengthy list, which includes tiers and comments from individual rankers.

Quarterbacks are particularly important in dynasty fantasy football. They tend to have longer careers than players at any other position. So whether you’re deciding to trade for a young stud in your superflex dynasty league or deciding how long you can wait to draft a quarterback in a one-quarterback dynasty startup, be sure to check DLF’s dynasty quarterback rankings as well as our Dynasty ADP data.

Let’s get to it! Here is a breakdown of the top ten dynasty fantasy football quarterbacks from our consensus rankings:

1. Andrew Luck

Luck has never finished the season as the top fantasy football quarterback, but he’s finished in the top six three of the past four seasons. The biggest concern for Luck is Indianapolis’s offensive line. Only one quarterback (Tyrod Taylor) took more sacks than Luck in 2016. And the hits have taken their toll: after missing nine games in 2015 due to a lacerated kidney, Luck has spent the offseason recovering from shoulder surgery.

2. Aaron Rodgers

Jeff Miller makes the case for Rodgers in his comment on the dynasty quarterback rankings page: “Hands down the best quarterback in the NFL.” Rodgers has finished as the number one fantasy football quarterback two of the past three seasons, and he shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, 2016 served as a rebound from the worst season of Rodgers’s career in 2015. The Packers have apparently shifted to a pass-happy attack, and Rodgers likely will post top fantasy numbers for the foreseeable future.

3. Russell Wilson

Wilson has finished as a top-three quarterback in two of the past three seasons. Alas, the exception was in 2016, when he struggled through injury and finished outside the top 12 in points per game. But that poor fantasy football output masked a strong positive sign: Wilson threw 546 passes, well more than his previous career high of 483. The extra pass attempts were partially offset by fewer rushes, but his overall opportunities increased. As Seattle continues to rely more on Wilson’s arm, he’ll return to elite fantasy status.

4. Cam Newton

Newton was drafted as the top dynasty quarterback just 12 months ago. He was the top fantasy football quarterback in 2015, throwing for a career-high 35 touchdowns and tallying another 10 on the ground. But he disappointed in 2016, finishing outside the top 12 quarterbacks for the second time in the past three seasons. The Panthers selected run-after-catch weapons Christian McCaffrey and Curtis Samuel with their first two draft picks in 2017. The apparent shift in offensive philosophy adds further uncertainty to Newton’s fantasy outlook.

5. Marcus Mariota

Mariota carried a lot of dynasty fantasy football teams to the playoffs in 2016, only to leave them holding the bag once they arrived. Mariota was a top-six fantasy quarterback through Week 13, but he posted 27 total fantasy points in Weeks 14 through 16 before breaking his fibula late in the third quarter in Week 16. Mariota should benefit from the top-drafted rookie wide receiver, Corey Davis, and veteran touchdown machine Eric Decker.

6. Jameis Winston

Winston has never finished as a top-12 fantasy football quarterback, but but he’s heading into his age-24 season, and he has some serious weapons at his disposal. DeSean Jackson brings a vertical threat that the Buccaneers haven’t had since Winston joined the team, and O.J. Howard should quickly develop into an above-average two-way tight end. If Winston doesn’t produce this season, he should plummet down dynasty quarterback rankings. A bonus for those who like consistency: Winston has finished among the top-24 fantasy football quarterbacks in 31 of 32 career weeks.

7. Derek Carr

Carr has rapidly improved as a “real world” and fantasy football quarterback in his three NFL seasons. 2016 marked his first season as a top-12 fantasy quarterback, and he appears primed for a repeat performance. Carr and stud third-year wide receiver Amari Cooper should help win a few dynasty championships in the next few seasons.

8. Matt Ryan

Our dynasty quarterback rankings aren’t ignoring Ryan’s career-best 2016 season, but we’re not ignoring his putrid 2015 either. Both seasons came under offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, so don’t fret too much about Shanahan’s departure for San Francisco. Still, there’s no doubt Ryan will regress from his 7.1% touchdown rate. Only Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers has matched that mark more than once since 2000.

9. Dak Prescott

Even in superflex leagues, Prescott was a late-round rookie pick one year ago. Now he’s the youngest dynasty quarterback with a top-12 fantasy season under his belt. No doubt he was good in 2016, but our quarterback rankers are rightly leery of one season of production in near-ideal circumstances. Indeed, Twitter dubbed Prescott the most overvalued quarterback in dynasty. Prescott won’t always have a top offensive line, stud running back, and dominant red zone wide receiver. But he has them now, and another season like 2016 should push Prescott into the top six dynasty quarterbacks.

10. Tom Brady

While Brady may want to play until his mid-40s, our dynasty quarterback rankers have their doubts. But he’s a consensus top-two redraft option, which makes him valuable in dynasty, regardless of age. Especially in leagues that start only one quarterback, I wouldn’t blame a contending team for valuing Brady over anyone not named Luck, Rodgers, or Wilson.
