Dynasty Fantasy Football Player News
Nico Collins gets paid
FollowThe Texans have signed wide receiver Nico Collins to a contract extension.
Dynasty Analysis
It's a three-year, $72.75 million extension that includes $52 million guaranteed. If there was any doubt about what Houston thought of Collins, this erases all of that as he gets a pretty tidy sum of money. Houston clearly thinks Collins and CJ Stroud have a special connection and Collins will now look to build on his 80/1,297/8 breakout season. As our WR21, there is still some runway for a value bump and he could actually be a "buy low" candidate should dynasty managers continue to believe his season can't be replicated with a healthy Tank Dell and newly added Stefon Diggs in the fold.
(Source: ESPN)Tee Higgins missing out
FollowBengals wide receiver Tee Higgins is sitting out voluntary OTAs.
Dynasty Analysis
While the Bengals are saying they aren't concerned publicly, this holdout is a little more significant than that of Ja'Marr Chase. Higgins has been franchise tagged and it seems the team has little interest in negotiating a long-term deal. Higgins was more likely to be traded during the NFL Draft than now, but this is a situation to monitor. At this point, dynasty managers need to just hold on tight and see what happens.
(Source: ESPN)Ja'Marr Chase absent
FollowBengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is absent for OTAs.
Dynasty Analysis
Chase is waiting for a lucrative long-term deal that will likely make him the highest paid receiver in the league (at least temporarily). The Bengals don't seem to be worried at the moment and dynasty managers shouldn't be, either. Chase is in the top three overall in terms of position players and there's no sense getting too concerned until Chase starts missing real practice time.
(Source: ESPN)Caleb Williams struggling
FollowCaleb Williams is reportedly struggling to pick up the Chicago offense.
Dynasty Analysis
In what amounts to be nothing more than an overreaction news piece, it seems Williams is reportedly being thrown into the fire early in Chicago and struggling against the Bears first-string defense. Dynasty managers should keep in mind we're not even into June, so this is nothing more than a rookie getting his feet wet in the NFL. Williams remains the favorite to be the 1.01 in Superflex drafts this off-season.
(Source: NY Times)The Eagles have signed free agent wide receiver John Ross.
Dynasty Analysis
Ross was last seen with the Chiefs prior to deciding to retire around a year ago. Instead, the former fastest man in the league has decided to give it one more go and takes the place of the newly retired DeVante Parker on the roster, at least for now. Ross will not be guaranteed a roster spot and while this is a fun story to follow, it's doubtful we see any kind of fantasy value emerging from Ross, a former first round pick who busted in Cincinnati.
(Source: ESPN)DeVante Parker retires
FollowNow former Eagles wide receiver DeVante Parker is retiring.
Dynasty Analysis
Still just 31 years old, Parker has clearly had a change of heart after recently signing a free agent contract with the Eagles. Always long on talent but short on production, Parker's career just never did materialize. He ends with 402 catches, 5,660 yards and 27 touchdowns. However, he posted a ton of that in what turned out to be a fluky 2019 season with the Dolphins where he posted a 72/1,202/9 line which represented career highs in every category. After the short two-year stint with New England, it seems Parker is just ready to move on. Dynasty managers will be happy to do the same as Parker has clogged some rosters in recent years.
(Source: ESPN)Rashee Rice to attend OTAs
FollowChiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice will attend OTAs this week.
Dynasty Analysis
It's never a good thing when we have a multitude of player updates for you in the off-season and virtually none of them revolve around football. Such has been the case with Rice, however, as he is currently facing what looks to be a potentially long suspension after a racing incident and most recently, a potential assault. Attending camp is good but he's nearly impossible to move in a dynasty league with a black cloud currently over his head. Rice will remain a hold as this whole thing unfolds over the next few weeks and months.
(Source: SI)Najee Harris on a diet
FollowSteelers running back Najee Harris has apparently changed his diet in order to improve his performance.
Dynasty Analysis
Well, it can't hurt. Harris is now in a contract year after having his option declined and appears motivated to perform at a higher level as he seeks a lucrative second contract in the league in Pittsburgh or elsewhere. Harris was much better towards the end of last season but Jaylen Warren continues to push for carries and it's hard to believe this won't end up in a timeshare. Harris is best served as a RB2/Flex at the moment but he does have a runway to move up in the rankings should he finally reach his potential.
(Source: SB Nation)David Johnson retires
FollowFree agent running back David Johnson is retiring from the NFL.
Dynasty Analysis
Johnson had a monster 2016 season that featured more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and a whopping 20 touchdowns for the Cardinals but was never able to replicate that kind of production again. He spent some time with the Texans and Saints over the past few years but in the end, lasted just eight seasons in the league. Such is life in the NFL. If you still had Johnson on your roster, chances are you didn't win your league last season.
(Source: ESPN)Marquez Valdes-Scantling signs with Buffalo
FollowThe Bills have signed free agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Dynasty Analysis
The Bills look like they're going to attack the post-Stefon Diggs era with a "WR by committee" approach that could feature the likes of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel, Chase Claypool and now MVS. While Coleman remains the only blue chip player on that list, someone else is likely to emerge. Valdes-Scantling is likely no more than a roster clogger-level player moving forward but this development is enough to keep him on the dynasty radar.
