Dynasty Fantasy Football Trading Post: Tee Higgins
Welcome to the Non Point Scoring Season where the points don’t matter and we get to ignore our starting settings and just go after the players we like! As a standing tradition, my first article of this series will be about my favorite player, a player who is in position to gain value due to being a free agent, and someone who finished as WR3 in points per game. That player is none other than…
Tee Higgins, WR CIN
If you watch the DLF Trade Show on the DLF YouTube channel you will see a gigantic signed jersey/poster of Tee Higgins that hangs behind me surrounded by graded rookie cards so my feelings are clearly going to be biased here. If we take away the name and just talk about when the second receiver on a team can earn an average of 10 targets, 7 catches, 90 yards, and a touchdown per game his level of play speaks for itself. Higgins also happens to be a free agent which means he may no longer be the second wide receiver on his team very soon. The phrase “worst case scenario” doesn’t really seem to fit here but even if he ends up staying with the Bengals he can just keep earning those stellar numbers.
Let’s take a look through the DLF Trade Finder and Trade Analyzer and see what some Tee Higgins trades look like to see what direction his market is leaning.
14 team, superflex, PPR
Derrick Henry is very good at football. More importantly, Derrick Henry is very good at football in December. But Higgins and Henry averaged the same points per game this season. One of them happens to be a free agent wide receiver entering his prime age for his position and one happens to be a 31 year old running back. Being able to get a 2026 second round pick on top of our wide receiver feels like an absolute win.
12 team, superflex, PPR
I get it, you are rebuilding so you think you need picks, but there needs to be a value equivalency in these trades and I don’t see it here. It is a dangerous mindset to just think you need picks and young players to rebuild. You need to be careful that the trades you make are still worth making. The analyzer has Higgins worth the 1.08 and I would still easily prefer the known commodity over the risk of a later first round pick.
12 team, superflex, PPR
Even as a rebuilding team, I like this move to acquire Higgins. Chris Olave is a player dynasty managers still do not fully believe in. We have not seen him play to his potential. Also, there is nothing that can happen to raise Olave’s dynasty value in the near future. If you wanted to acquire Higgins in order to move him before the Points Scoring Season then this is a fair price to pay now and a price you will be able to increase upon once we know Higgins’ future landing spot. If you want a wide receiver entering the prime age for his position to build around you got that too.
When points aren’t being scored you need to keep an open mind to the situation surrounding players. Identifying players who have the likely chance to rise in value during the “off-season” earlier than the rest of your league mates is a good way to get an advantage in the Non Point Scoring Season and raise the value of your rosters. Higgins is my favorite player in this situation but go and look through your leagues and find the players you like and the players you think will increase the value of your rosters and go send some offers!
