IDP Improvements: Moves to Make before Week 13

Jason Abbey

There is never a time to become complacent in dynasty, irrespective of whether your team has enjoyed success or fallen short of expectations. Here, we look at some of the roster moves you should consider ahead of week 13.

Nick Herbig, EDGE PIT – Add/trade for

Herbig piqued interest among IDP managers with a stellar performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in week three. Despite having only eight pass rush snaps, he pressured Justin Herbert three times and produced two sacks.

The 23-year-old followed up with a five-pressure, two-sack game against the Dallas Cowboys in week five before being sidelined for a month with a hamstring injury. Herbig returned with a bang following injury, generating four pressures against the Baltimore Ravens in week 11 before delivering four pressures and a sack against the Cleveland Browns in week 12.

Herbig’s underlying metrics justify the hype. His 13.3% pressure rate ranks 26th out of 106 edge rushers, and his 17.9% win rate ranks ahead of Maxx Crosby, Khalil Mack, and Nik Bonitto. His value has risen steadily in the DLF Dynasty IDP Rankings and will do so if he continues to take advantage of his opportunities.

Unfortunately for Herbig, Alex Highsmith appears close to returning from injury, and it is difficult to envisage a situation where Herbig could carve out a role large enough to sustain similar levels of production alongside a healthy T.J. Watt and Highsmith.

Still, Herbig clearly possesses the talent and potential to make an impact and should be acquired by IDP managers who can afford to carry him on their rosters until his time comes.

Dre Greenlaw, LB SF – Add/trade for

After spending the season on the PUP list, the San Francisco 49ers opened the 21-day window for Greenlaw to return to practice this week.

It is unclear whether Greenlaw will remain with the 49ers beyond 2024, as he is currently set to become a free agent. Still, do-it-all linebackers who can excel on all three downs are in short supply, and whether the San Francisco 49ers choose to sign him to a new deal or not, Greenlaw will almost certainly find himself in an every-down role in 2025.

Acquire Greenlaw now, and you could stand to profit next season. He may even be available on waivers in shallow leagues.

K.J. Britt, LB TB – Trade away

Britt headlines a group of linebackers who are perhaps seeing more snap volume than they deserve.

Initially considered to be a sleeper at the position following the departure of Devin White, Britt’s performances this season have been underwhelming. He has struggled in coverage, missed more than 15% of his tackle opportunities, and would almost certainly have played a smaller role had Sir’Vocea Dennis not been sidelined since October with a shoulder injury.

Lavonte David considered retirement earlier this year and may do so again after the 2024 season, seemingly opening the door for Britt to play a larger role should he remain with the team at the end of his current deal next summer. Use that point in trade negotiations in the hope that your trade partner overlooks how poorly Britt has performed.

Malcolm Koonce, EDGE LV – Add/trade for

Koonce burst onto the IDP scene in 2023, posting an impressive 15.1% pressure rate, 52 pressures, and eight sacks.

Unfortunately, the 25-year-old suffered a season-ending knee injury in September, just three days before the Las Vegas Raiders’ opening game. It was a cruel blow for a player who looked set to become a key player on a team devoid of pass-rush help alongside Maxx Crosby.

Koonce is set to become a free agent in 2025. Whether Koonce remains with the Raiders or explores options elsewhere, he should be in a good position to build on his breakout 2023 season, provided he is fully fit. His absence in 2024 will make him cheaper to acquire in fantasy than he would have been otherwise.

Conclusion

There is a heavy emphasis on how free agency may affect the value of IDPs in this week’s article, as there will be every week between now and the end of the season. It pays to get the jump on how things may shake out.
