Five Landing Spots That Would Tank Rookie WR Value

Ryan McDowell

“It all comes down to landing spot.” This is an idea we hear repeated over and over through the pre-draft season, but not all landing spots are created equally. We dream of the ideal team/player pairings for the stars of the incoming class, but that is usually not the case. Instead, a perceived poor landing spot can tank the value of an expected first-round rookie pick, throwing rookie drafts out of whack before they even begin.

Many teams around the league have a need at the wide receiver position and that is clearly one of the strengths of this year’s rookie class. Some of those teams, including those projected to use their first-round pick on a wideout, could be bad news for dynasty managers. Before the NFL Draft begins in less than two weeks, let’s examine some of those landing spots that should put us on the edge of our collective seats come April 25th.

New York Giants

I recently asked my Twitter followers which realistic landing spots had them most worried when it comes to incoming rookie receivers. The New York Giants were the overwhelming top choice. The Giants' current depth chart includes undersized specialists with potential, including Wan’Dale Robinson and Jalin Hyatt, but no true threat to emerge as a WR1. The team hoped tight end Darren Waller would fill that role when they acquired him last offseason but that move was also a bust. The current form of the Giants features a head coach and quarterback who are firmly on the hot seat and trending in the wrong direction. The last Giants fantasy football WR1 or WR2 was Odell Beckham in 2016. While the rookie receiver that is selected by the Giants will have a clear path to targets and playing time, there is almost no support in this organization.
